Hit Deal Lake with Leif today. I fished with him from noon till it was time for him to leave which was around 3:00. During then we started off by the Railroad tracks and got notta, although we saw some nice quality carp jump in the distance. Moved down to another spot started to get some Bluegills and also a baby bass. Further on we hit the bridge of monmouth road and I caught some bluegill, a small Bass, and a crappie while watching Leif fish across the way. Leif tried very hard for Largemouth today without such luck, but noticing all the baits he tried today and all the casting he did, he will do very well when he goes in his Kayak this coming summer. I will bet he will post a report of him with a 7 pounder he caught on a fluke or topwater frog, just you wait...

Futhermore, later on I worked a side of the lake and caught a 14 incher on a senko, but that was about it. Find time out with Leif!

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you should be careful the way that you handle bass, especially this time of year. Bass fishing is actually closed right now, and although I'm sure you returned them, it's best to do that as quickly as possible. Laying them on the ground like that can remove their slime coat and open them up to infection. Since they're spawing now, it makes it even more important to handle them correctly.

Nice report! Still surprised at the quantity and quality of the fishing in that lake.

Nice report and pictures! As said, handle with care.....but if those fish can live in that lake they are as tough as nails.

I fished the upper part of the lake on Saturday, got two 12" bass in about an hour on a spinnerbait. Water looked a little low for this time of year.

Nice report Snapp and Leif. I'm sure you guys handled the fish ok. They are extremely hardy after dodging all the nasty's from AP that are floating Deal Lake.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to be a jerk or pass any kind of judgement. I learned everything that I know from other people showing me. I was just trying to help and offer a suggestion. No harm, no foul. Nice catches by the way man.

I appreciate your help and you are 100% right. You should not try to put a fish on the ground as it can harm them, like you said their slime coat acts as their outside immune system. I only did it so I could get a nice shot with the camera and then I would quickly release them. One of the bass would not stop shaking his head when I lipped it and it fell once or twice on the ground but all the fish where fine.

Howie, if what you said had to do with the trash around the lake, man some parts of that lake are just disgusting. Near Asbury their was garbage all over the bank and it smelled like sh!t! If they want the lake to be a nice clean place to fish I suggest the people should clean it up!!! Including us.

Thanks Snapper. I really appreciate you realizing that I wasn't trying to bust your chops. Great job on the catch and release and keep on catching fish. Having fun is what's most important. A lot of people forget that's what fishing is supposed to be about.

I think your interest in the area is outstanding. Maybe write a few letters in your spare time to the communities that the lake is in. I think you are a student as I remember. Start a letter campaign, get others involved, next thing you know your on the town council, then the mayor, and so on. It's a great place to start, some day you will need to write a college thesis. Can we call you Mayor Snapperhead ? Great report !

My lake in northern jerz is producing the same kind od results. I have seen a the same type and size, as well as tons of nice, bigger bass in the shallows on the beds...and wanting nothing to do with anything I've thrown at em.

Bass fishing is actually closed right now ...

Bass fishing season is open, it's just catch and release.

Whatever bro. That's what I meant. To me, catch and release means closed. I'm bass fishing too and am well aware that's not illegal, but it is illegal to keep them. Meaning closed.
