Snaps is a puppy dog; little sharp teeth and loud bark but NO BITE!
ROFLMFAO WOOF, WOOF , WOOF, COMP, CHOMP, CHOMP
Ask Da Perfesser what happened when he stuck that freakin eel in MY cooler.
Tommy-practice tying rigs, and dont swing unless you have a really good chew going,;) 'cause LAB has radar and will spot it in a heartbeat, even if he is on the opposite side of the boat, he has that 6th sense.
Based on the loop system.
No top shot needed
You can make the base leader as long as you want.
The base leader consist of a pre-made section of leader with dropper loop for sinker, Kiwi loop above sinker for the snelled hook/hooks. The other end to is a perfection loop.
Make a non slip loop in your braid 65-85 braid. 30-50lb base leader, snelled hook can be 50-80lb if you want.
Just loop on the leader handshake style. No knots, uni's ect. the rig will break off on the sinker, hook loop or more likely the loop connection. The loop in the braid remains.
Just loop another on.

The only problem I see is when the rig breaks in any of those locations a big tog might be on the hook. I NEVER want the rig to break anywhere BUT the sinker.

I'm leaning to sticking to my original idea. Nice big wreck or three in 80-100' 10 miles off the beach.

we could just go in search of those Macks (sorry Jimmy Elliot)?????? That way Leif would be ensured of taking the Title! (though he is extremely cocky he'll win)

Forget 17....lets fish the wrecks and hope for the best. Seems that the recent reports suggest that deeper water might be producing more numbers, which means more action on a brutally cold day. Dress warm fellas.
ps...PLEASE don't mention the word MACKEREL anymore in this thread. This is a TOG outing.

I dunno WHERE da HOUSE gets their odds from but:
River Rat - Odds he sends in his check 10:1 Odds he sends cash Ha Ha Ha. While his family duties keep him busy he still gets out often enough that The House has to respect his chances 10:1 Respect is one thing. Fishing is another and he ain't been 25:1
I met the River Rat yesterday and if "things" don't work out with my Tony SNAPS/ MickRazz theory, I will be revisiting this "new" friend.
PB & J - Johnny B. The King of the Big Fish. Somehow he'll try to make this a TEAM effort with Boston Pete and FinS Bob but it's a ONE FISH TOURNAMENT. I don't care how much his rod and reel cost ($1,000.00.......we've been told often enuf). 10:1 He had Baby Girl mail in his deposit. Is she gonna bait your hooks too Johnny B? Brand new Truck and you make FinS drive down to fish on the Mimi? He Squeeks. AND he won't have The S.S. Beanhead to sneak around on next year. 20:1
for a "BIG" man this guy can slid into a space I didnt think Kimmie could fit and he PULLED the TOGZILLA attached outa the hole.....
Life's A Beach
01-08-2010, 10:46 AM
You think The House is pulling these numbers outta thin air???? you think The House should make them favorites????
Do be fooled Reel Nauti; Rat is a nice guy and one hell of a fisherman. But ....like most people, he has a Dark Side!
Johnny B???? The BIGGEST shyte stirrer around; BAR NONE! Generous to a fault but don't:
1. Ask him to drive
2. Ask him to clean the boat
3. Smoke upwind of him
You'll see a transformation of Biblical proportions!

head south, this is PUOSU!!! not a lets's limit the boat with keepers. i always like a challenge. the fewer fish caught makes the trip that more "epic". what's the challenge when there are ten fish that come up around ten pounds> who is the real winner? i say fish south (as orignally planned) and let the chips fall where they may......mmmm, i can almost taste THOSE taylor ham and egg sandwiches now... also another reason to bring the MACKERAL RIGS. :p :D
Final thoughts.....
I say 17.
Is mickrazz really that crabby?
If so I'll put Lil Leif next to him.
I'm thinking of not fishing(much) and tending to the boy and team dales. They will need all the help they can get.

1) Who you kidding. I have witnessed first hand the "game face" once the boat hits open water.
2)In my mind this is a charter and you are the captain of our little space on the deck. "the best way to get something done is team up with the best of the industry, pay them well, bid the job high and then take all of the credit"
3) 62 Rigs/ 200lbs lead will be fine for me but what are you going to use?

Got "The Crown" today........and while I truly wanted to get a Tiara, I opted for the more logical choice.
I will be presenting Mick Razz with his HRU hat back; professionally cleaned. While I appreciate him loaning it to me and make me an official member of this HIGHLY ESTEEMED group; it IS and original and he should have it.
THAT coupled with the fact there's NO CHANCE IN HELL he'll be getting the CROWN!
Updated odds later this evening; BUT I'll start you with a teaser.......
Stelios 1:2 19.4# Personal Best blackfish is the biggest of anyone I know. Double and triple limits. Filling other peepz limits when they can't! While there will be MANY good and very good toggers on this trip......The House is setting this "pony" as the CHALK! Stelios - 1:2 The Chalk..........something for you wannabees to aim for.
Gerry Z - 50:1 His side bet with LAB ain't helping him none. Enjoy the vacation!
D Rod - 25:1 "My wife won't let me go"????? Dunno if this is for real?
Mick Razz - 1:1 he sends his eggs back @ OB Diner for not being cooked right. 5:1 He catches the pool fish. Oh he's sooo fulla hisself since taking a pool on 1/1/10. Giving advice on reels, knots, top shots. This ain't sally growlers in the pond Baby Al Ristori. This is PUT UP OR SHUT UP!
Dales 1 - 100:1 And I'm being nice
Dales 2 - 200:1 Unknown
Dales 3 (Leif) - 50:1 Bad Wing
Dales 4 (Leiflet) - 25:1 As long as he's fishing by LAB, not his Cod-Driven Dad
Rob B - 150:1 Nothing to improve these odds
Cool Hand Fluke - 50:1 This horse is jumping up in class......let's see if he can run with the thoroughbreds?
Clam Strings - 10:1 HE'S been fishing AND catching.
Bottom Bouncer - 100:1 If this one fishes like his name, I HOPE he's not by me
Reel Nauti - 40:1 HE'S been fishing and .......hmmmmmmm uh.....
ALS Mako - 25:1 Spending too much time answering Intro-Net questions and not enuf time fishing
JMurr - 300:1 SUPPOSEDLY dropping a pool fish boat-side speaks volumes. What's the sound called when a smoker coughs?????
Snaps - 40:1 With Mick Razz bringing his baby brother......Tony won't get Mick's attention (and Snaps NEEDS IT)
Foul Hook - 100:1 Too cold and rough for this Fair Weather Fisherman!
Hammer4Reel - 25:1 Positive he ain't been blowing his own horn. Negative he ain't been fishing (or reporting that he's fishing)
Scardino - OUT
JM727 - OUT
Dave Tats - 40:1 Fresh from a night playing poker with Shrimpie??? Fageddaboudit
FinS Bob - 10:1 WHERE he belongs; regardless of WHO he drives down with

300:1 i deserve that after the fall i had but now that i am semi beardless not only do i resemble a 13 year old boy(hoping to get lil leifs rejects) but i also am more aerodynamic and thus this will help increase my hook up ratio. are we doing first come first serve or by the thread order? either way i'm leaving da philthy at 3 be at the boat by 4:30, then i'll hit up da diner. also Eamon can i join team liberal?

fished 17 all day. bite was in the stern all day, cold and barren in the bow  . i don't think any limits were caught, but a few guys had 3, a fair amopunt of ling, some nice doggies, and ocean pout.
i hope i got this right, but i'm 99 percent sure the pool fish was caught by River Rat, weighing in at just under 9 pounds. congrats to him, our new tog master.
great bunch of guys, lots of fun, lots of ice, and kudo's to lab:D GREAT JOB!!!!

Life's A Beach
01-09-2010, 07:12 PM
COLD
Many of us met at the diner and ate like Gentlemen. We boarded like gypsys and set sail @ 6:30. A coin toss had us sailing to 17.
Sporty ride up north with Scooter coming close to tossing his cookies. We set anchors and had at it. Port mid-ships starting pulling some fish and Young Leif got the first keeper for the starboard side.
Not a lot of bites all day. Captain Jeff tweaked us a few time trying to get the entire boat on bottom (Kudos but tough with 40 anglers on an 85' boat).
A couple moves and more tweaks but a good bite never materialized.
Small greens and small whites seemed to work best.
JMurr filled his cooler (not himself) with pout and ling PLUS he got a keeper when Mick Razz and I gave up and skated. DAMN!
River Rat won the Title with a 9.0# fat slob. $400 Pool!
D Rod took 2nd place with an 8.7# toggie.
PB&J took 3rd place with a 7.6#er.
Hats Off to Da Rat (or Crown On?).
Between the great galley and the food brought we ate like kings all day; Irish Soda Bread and Venison Stew were some of the treats.
A GREAT time had with many old friendships re-kindled and some new friendships made!
I want to thank all for making this trip happen; it doesn't go without the fishermen. $200 Donation to SSFFF!

You run a nice trip Mr. Wells. I had a really good time even though I only caught 1 short and got a little red faced when Ms. Gold ask me how I did..I told her one short to which she replied "I thought you were one of the favorites".....nice. It was nice to finally meet some of the guys and gals on the board that I read about. AND....I didn't have to punch anyone in the nose, but Mark (Quanman) came REALLY close when he mugged me and caught a short right under my nose. JMurr...next time we fish together be on your toes..I got one save up just for you.:) Congrats to Rat on the pool. I KNEW a South River guy was gonna win...just wasn't ME. I hope the guys enjoy their new "J" hooks;) Maybe next year we do this trip in November?

Thanks LAB for organizing the trip. It was good to meet everyone. Congratulations to River Rat for the great catch. It was also fun to watch LAB's face contort every time Gerry landed a fish. Way to go Gerry.
I knew I was in trouble today when I got to the rail to fish and Lab was standing next to me. I knew that I was going to be busted on all day and beside that that I wasn't going to be catching and that I was going to be cold. Lab has a knack for picking the worst spots on the boat but where else can you have so much fun not catching fish while freezing your a$$ off.
Repeat over and over. NW wind in the winter fish on the port side. NW wind in the winter fish on the port side.

Had a blast! Thanks Mike, these trips are not easily put together. Great fishing with everybody!
slow bite, but the laughs were non stop!
If I remember correctly, Dales had no keepers (he lived up to expectations)
I had one keeper, Tautog1 had none. But he still has his dignity:D
LAB doesn't like bananas in his bag:eek:, we are even for the crab in the hoodie:D (laughed my @#& off, as LAB ran around the boat wanting to know "who put the F'en banana in my bag")
Team Monger REALLY hates bananas
The florida room is the place to be in January (music, sunshine, and a windchill 20 degrees higher than the bow)
I like my gloves medium rare (15 seconds in the microwave)
Marilyn loves to feed people, and I love to eat. It always works out well!
great group of people, I consider you all good friends!
PS: LAB when blackfishing, how many times a day should you change your rig?

Great job setting up this trip Mike. A bunch of great people on board and tons of fun, as usual. You run a great trip... I don't know what was more fun, the lead up to the trip with all the trash talking or the trip itself. Thanks and great job!!
Dales and Terry - Thanks for the hospitality and putting us up for the night. One question.... Who got the hot shower first? "You can roll the dice all you want... It's my house and my shower"
Rat - thanks for the loan of the pole, the company for the ride and congrats on the pool.
Eric - nice fishing next to you and thanks for all the encouragement. It was great to tangle up, I mean fish with you for the day.
Shrmpy - Always fun fishing with you... You kept the stern entertained all day. I still can't believe you kept the 14 1/4 inch fish, and my buck:D
John - great to finally meet you and hope to see an SS Bean Head II in your future very soon.
Jerry and Wayne O - Glad the 2 of you made it. Must have taken some getting used to though... I'll bet every time a net was called for or a tangled developed, you had to resist the instinct to get right on it.
Marilyn - You're the best.. Thanks for all the treats you bought for everyone. You'll be happy to know we made it home safe. The reason my eyes didn't look so good is because I was sick....It really hit me this morning... My throat is really sore and I can hardly talk. I probably shouldn't have made the trip yesterday but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
To the crew of the Voyager - Thanks for taking care of us and putting in the effort. Seems like every time I needed something Joe, Anthony or Chav were right there. Although the fishing was slow, I got 3 keepers and it turns out I only need one for my side bet with LAB.
Mick Razz - Nice tog set up you got there and thanks for the offer to fish with it.... Turns out I didn't need the extra Mojo, but the offer was appreciated none the less.
Parkway tolls - $2.00
2 large Pizzas for our crew the night before $40.00
Fare on the Voyagers , White Leggers and the pool $95.00
Payola to Captain Jeff to keep the stern on the good bottom $100
A new sub forum for Blackfish Questions - Priceless.

Dales and Terry - Thanks for the hospitality and putting us up for the night. One question.... Who got the hot shower first? "You can roll the dice all you want... It's my house and my shower"
If you get up an hour before everyone else, you get the shower first. and it was nice and hot:D
Shrmpy - Always fun fishing with you... You kept the stern entertained all day. I still can't believe you kept the 14 1/4 inch fish, and my buck:D
money is money :D
Great fishing with you too Gerry! thanks for the website! without that, none of this would ever happen!

Great day guys...except the bite.... It was nice to meet all of you and seeing the guys I have already met. Lab....nice job setting this deal up and thanks for having me. One day I'll make you proud and maybe....just maybe I can be in the HRU team photo.
Special thanks to my Bro for getting me into this insane sport and also to Dave Tats knowing I'm a noob and trying to point me in the right direction even though there didn't seem to be one.
Scotty, I re-rigged in about a minute today......20 minutes better than Cape May !!
TRazzway to go tom. i saw that you were in the action all day today, looking for that bite, like me, LOL. ;m sure you will be outfishing mick in notime;)

1. We are NOT even. The banana was over the line :(

All right enough of the azz kissing already. Anybody who says " even though I didn't catch any fish it was just great to fish with such a great group of people" is just full of shyte. I definately could have waited until spring to see some of you ugly Fockers. OOPS did I type that out loud :p
It really was a fun trip. Thanks LAB for putting it together. The loads of laughs helped ease the pain of the really slow bite. It was nice to see the HRU crew again, and meeting Foul Hook and RobS. Thanks to Boston Pete for throwing a little Karma my way even though it yielded a doggie, I still got to reel in a fish.
It was my brother (LobsterTales) first NJFishing and blackfishing trip and he toughed it out and had a good time as well. I'm sure him and his goofy hat will come back for more.
MickRazz thanks for not punching me in the nose when I slid in between you and LAB but I just had to prove no bottom equals no fish and it wasn't the angler. ;) Actually we did have a rock at the last drop and Reel Nauti, Scoundrel, and I each took turns touching it with our sinkers just to get a feel. You couldn't lay you're sinker on it, it would just roll off the other side.
Congrats to all who got keepers you definately deserved them on a day like yesterday. WTG River Rat nice pool fish.
Thanks again LAB whats the next trip?

WOW
Thank you JMurr and Smokey Joe; it's usually ME who remembers everything:
1. (while at 17 fathoms)............"how deep will we be fishing?"
2. Smokey Joe "One day when I was at the Gym"......... We didn't let him finish the sentence...OMMFG!
3. PB&J scarfing donuts (and these weren't munchkins). How many bald guys were on this trip????????
4. Quanman ..........that wasn't a mugging............That was a "jerry" - how you swung on that fish with one shoulder under my arm and the other shoulder buried in Mick's butt?????? Tell your sister she made a wise choice marrying Lobster Tail.........A man would could wear THAT hat in public is an extremely confident individual!
5. Young Leif is either going to fear his first day in high school or he's gonna get caught in his room with that "Alpha-Cheerleader Girl" in the first week.
6. Boston Pete's refusal to try "Deers" stew; AGAIN.
7. Mick Razz squeezing the bread and telling me....."it's not from Brooklyn"
8. Scooter telling us the story of "Lick and Tell".........NEVER, EVER tell a story like that in front of THIS CROWD.
9. Yogi Berra's tool of the trade!
AND
10. NO ONE talks more/louder than Joe Murray. Highlight of the trip for ME was fishing downwind of him. Didn't notice the wind at all!
Did I mention that Smokey Joe started to tell a story about "one day when I was at the Gym"..............?

When you can muster 20 liberals to come out blackfishing in the winter, and watch me cut up defenseless crabs, eat BAMBI stew that I KILLED myself then cut the throats of very much alive blackfish so their hearts pump out their blood till they are dead, THEN I will summon my crew of 7 and we can make plans for our trip. Don't make me wait till I'm 80 please...I wouldn't want JMurr thinking he could take advantage of me.

Lab- Thanks for putting this trip together. It was great to meet everyone and I had a blast.
MickRazz- Thanks for the Razz hook, I'll probably get more use out of it shanking the muggers. Thanks for ruining all my line, I'm spooling my reel as of this writing.
Quanman- Thanks for introducing me to this and taking me along. Anytime fishing with my brother is a good time.
Scotty- The only reason I didn't try the perfection loop is because I didn't want to be shown up by little Leif. Thanks for the PM.
Paulie- Thanks for the sticker.
LAB- Do you have a technique for pulling slobs out of Mud?:D Additionally, I'm Marks brother, therefore I didn't marry his sister. Sorry to dissappoint if you thought we had something in common:p

First off, Thanks LAB, a well run trip on a tough day. Great job putting it all together and even with the slow bite a great time on the water.
Shrimpman , always a great time fishing with you.
Gerry, always a good time to be had with you around (thanks for this site), Nice meeting Rat too and congrats on the pool. Too bad we never got he poker game off the ground the night before. Rat is also intelligent, he refused our offer to come back to the house to share his pool winnings at Gin and dice. Got Terry for $60.00 bucks before the end of the Jet game!! Thanks Terry for the hospitality and goob job on your eel and ling. High hook for my team!
Fished with Team Norwegian and Lil Leif started off with a keeper within 10 minutes of pulling tight so thought we were in the right spot. Fishing with Leif is always a learning experience, guy is a fishing handbook on two legs and it was like having your own private captain.
Nice meeting some that I havent fished with before and putting some faces to names.
Things I learned:
-I should quit while ahead like in October or stick with Spring Stipers and Summer Tuna.
- Shrimpman sleeps upright in the starboard corner of various PB / Charter boats and makes the stern into his living room. This 1/2 man 1/2 shrimp has been sighted as far south as Cape May and north to Montauck. He was rumored to have been seen on the starboard strern corner of the voyager as early as Wednesday before the trip. While this species hunts often and mainly traps small quarry it normally catches enough for a meal to sustain itself for the next trip. :D
- Joe Murr is as advertised, fun guy to fish with as long as your ears are properly covered. Last seen consoling Donavan McNabb with a large bowl of Chunky Pout Soup.
- Got Bottom is not human, fished all day without gloves:eek:
- Do not fish on the same side of the boat with Lab. Headless bergalls scare off all other species of fish. And Lab , they dont make a breath mint for that.
- Mickrazz is really a nice guy who takes the time to introduce himself to anyone who has recently caught a fish or had a bite:D Just kidding Mick, nice meeting you finally.

so it was a little chilly.....so my sinker never hit a pebble...i stuck to my game plan and didnt win!
put myself and scoundrel as close to future hall of famers mickrazz, boston pete, scotty and tony SNAPS on the starboard bow without moving their equipment....confidence is high....
because of that strategy had to spend 15 minutes de-icing my equipment!!
got to the bottom and felt around...prom date, nice and soft all over.
pushed my hood aside to better hear mick, SNAPS and pete...ummm, g rated site, cant let you know what was said.
now the intel starts flowing....a look, a hand gesture...all the little tell tale signs of GREAT players panicing!!
leif lands a keeper mid ships, chev reports catches mid ship portside...
we wiggle, we move, half crab, whole crab, small crab, i think i had a bite, got bottom, no bottom, we move again...inside intel...clam strings, got two...small whites...thanks
I got 1 short, a keeper and two quality bites and had more fun than a person should be allowed in 20 degree weather!!
I dunno WHERE da HOUSE gets their odds from but:
I met the River Rat yesterday and if "things" don't work out with my Tony SNAPS/ MickRazz theory, I will be revisiting this "new" friend.
i KNEW i should have put money down on this WINNER!!
River Rat - 10:1 Da Rat looked good the other day on Mimi.......tuning up. And he's been talking the talk this week.........nice to see your spirit. NO HAT FOR YOU!
River Rat - Odds he sends in his check 10:1 Odds he sends cash Ha Ha Ha. While his family duties keep him busy he still gets out often enough that The House has to respect his chances 10:1 Respect is one thing. Fishing is another and he ain't been 25:1
You think The House is pulling these numbers outta thin air???? you think The House should make them favorites????
Do be fooled Reel Nauti; Rat is a nice guy and one hell of a fisherman. But ....like most people, he has a Dark Side!
NO HAT
NO RESPECT
DARK SIDE
these are the things a man puts on his mirror and reads every morning until game day!!!
No wonder the RAT won!!
- Joe Murr is as advertised, fun guy to fish with as long as your ears are properly covered. Last seen consoling Donavan McNabb with a large bowl of Chunky Pout Soup.
THIS IS FUNNY!!
Wow the bow guys were not only left out of the bite today but the group photo as well. I'm going to f'n bed.
yeah, i'm with ya on that one....sheesh!!
couple of pictures for you....
da KING without his hanger-ons!!!
wake me if we WON!!

so it was a little chilly.....so my sinker never hit a pebble...i stuck to my game plan and didnt win!
put myself and scoundrel as close to future hall of famers mickrazz, boston pete, scotty and tony SNAPS on the starboard bow without moving their equipment....confidence is high....
because of that strategy had to spend 15 minutes de-icing my equipment!!
got to the bottom and felt around...prom date, nice and soft all over.
pushed my hood aside to better hear mick, SNAPS and pete...ummm, g rated site, cant let you know what was said.
now the intel starts flowing....a look, a hand gesture...all the little tell tale signs of GREAT players panicing!!
leif lands a keeper mid ships, chev reports catches mid ship portside...
we wiggle, we move, half crab, whole crab, small crab, i think i had a bite, got bottom, no bottom, we move again...inside intel...clam strings, got two...small whites...thanks
I got 1 short, a keeper and two quality bites and had more fun than a person should be allowed in 20 degree weather!!

Now this is some funny shite! I was up in that bow to start the day...but after a few drops in the cushion bottom I strapped the skates on! :D Mid ship seemed to have a good thing going...but it was the quiet stern that was pulling fish. At 6'2" and 200 pounds....wiggling into an already packed area takes some savvy and a good group to let you in (thanks fellas).
Best line from this thread IMHO is the following line. NICE JOB!!!
"Actually we did have a rock at the last drop and Reel Nauti, Scoundrel, and I each took turns touching it with our sinkers just to get a feel. You couldn't lay you're sinker on it, it would just roll off the other side."

Booby........That's funny but Smokey Joe "One day when I was at the gym" HAS to be the line of the day. The entire cabin erupted in laughter and wouldn't let him finish his sentence!

Two things pb@jj did not mention, fare was for Xmas and Cathy his long time girlfriend was in the bedroom with him. You guys can be worse than the females, but that is nothing new... He is the best friend anyone can ask for. Thank you John just the same for everything.

LAST POST:
I have chartered a boat for PUOSU III.
Day/Date is Saturday 12/18/10
Trip will be 20-24 anglers (sorry).
We will probably have a fund raiser fee for SSFFF again and I'm thinking of a $20 pool. Total fare will again be under $100.
The only three guaranteed spots (IF they want them) are PUOSU I winner Scooter Kearney and PUOSU II winner River Rat. And me.
Bear the date in mind when you book your trips for 2010!
Thank you for your support!
check sent to SSFFF Monday!
