I have a 25 Pursiut cc with radar and a single 250 outboard and 150 gal fuel. Fished the area on larger boats but would like to take my boat. Weather is obvious. How far could I chase the bluefin. Thanks

were u running out of? and do u know ur fuel consumption per nautical mile or gals per hr at say 1800 rpms?

YES its very doable but no your boats gas limits and watch the weather.

Fuel consumption is key. It will do you some good to follow the 1/3 rule. 1/3 for the run out 1/3 for the run in and 1/3 for reserve.

It seemed to be reachable this weekend when 200 other boats were out there!

That boat is capable. I would think the most important question is if the captain is capable, and if you have to ask, the answer is NO.

There are many concerns but very doable. Put a good plan together ( weather seas etc...)and attempt to reach out to other boaters in the area. Cell phones are useless out there so a good marine radio and hand held back-up is a minimum. I've done this many times in my single engine boat which I sold last year. Trolling trips to the Rezor wreck, Lillian, Slough, Monster Ledge, plus Barnegat Ridge,Olley 's Lump and many other inshore bluefin "hot spots" of the past are very doable in your boat.

There are many variables to consider. Safety equipment and training amongst the top. Almost any boat in the 25 ft. class is very capable of making it to the Glory, but, most of the boats Captains have no business taking a relatively small boat 50 off. Weather is another variable to be considered. With the recent weather patterns with small fronts pushing through every couple of days, only small weather windows have been open. The second day of a good 3 or 4 day Bermuda High is the kind of weather window you should be looking for with a boat in that size class. Trying to beat an incoming front headed east with a boat headed west for home is not a good plan, and soon enough many find themselves regretting taking advantage of a so called weather window.
Good luck and I wish you safe passage and good fishing, but, no fish is worth risking your life over.

Epirb, ditch bag, raft, float plan, and a safety briefed crew should be on the superbly maintained boat before a any trip offshore should be attempted. :)

I take a 21' cc to the glory, fingers etc. but we have all of the safety gear raft, epirb etc. . We watch the weather and bring 3 guys max. the thing some people dont realize is that if u get in trouble u can also put another boat in trouble trying to help you.
A fuel/range calculation that is pretty close and will give you approx. range of your vessel is range=1/10th rated hp = GPH at running speed capacity divided by GPH = running hours running hours X speed = total range then use the 1/3 out 1/3 back 1/3 reserve theory from there
ex. 150 hp 15 80 gal divided by 15 = 5.3 running hrs 5.3x 23 knots=122 miles which roughly gives you a range of 40 out.
