I’ve been seeing this great midshore yellowfin fishing up north for a few years now. I’m somewhat newer to the tuna game and was wondering when was the last time we had fishing like the guys up north? Seems like fish don’t stay around when they do come in? Had two good weeks this year in the end of June early July but that’s been it.

Not sure about the mid shore grounds but the southern canyons like Spencer and Baltimore usually get an earlier shot at Yellowfin then the northern canyons like the Hudson.

Midshore has its time in, depends on if the bait is there: ie: sand eels & such...and water temps...I guess the "hambone", "hot dog" & the "triple wrecks" to name 3, still have their weekenders. They were always wall to wall boats back in the day. This year the Atlantic storms have the water churned up with no breaks from the canyons to the beach.
Some of the spots off Jersey always seem to attract tuna much like the inshore green water fisheries.
In short, sometimes yea, sometimes nay.

Gotcha! Thanks for the info! I know they came into the tea cup right after this time last year but it lasted like 2 weeks :( wish they would come in and stick around for a little bit.
