Great pictures! Wait a few years when he hooks and lands his very first fish all on his own with no help!Thats when the fun really starts!
I go all the time with my 12 YO grandson, and have since he was about 3.. Now all he wants to do [besides his athletics] is go fishing..Although we catch some nice Bass, Perch, a Trout here and there, maybe a stray Bullhead, our main species continues to be Bluegills, Pumpkinseeds, Rock Bass..We have a spot at a reservoir spillway where we catch a lot of real big sunnies, up to 10 inches with huge shoulders. Great fighters on light tackle!Fantastic eating as well. We eat them almost every week this time of year. It doesn't really grow old even though its just bobber and worm fishing... Kids just want to fish, I think we all know that. They don't need "game fish" to have a great time. I have a feeling that there are very few kids or grandkids of the members here that don't have someone to take them fishing.. In my case, every single time we go fishing at some point my grandson grabs my arm, puts his face against it and says 'thanks for taking me Papa". I always tell him I will always take him, until I am physically not able to, and then I want him to take me. I have every expectation that if God gives me the years, that is exactly what will transpire. I know that there are many here that will be nodding in agreement when thinking about their own kids and grandkids that they take fishing.. I am VERY thankful that he wants to go fishing, or play soccer, baseball, basketball, or just go out and play catch with a hardball, or shoot some baskets instead of those dark, ominous, video games that so many kids love, or the cell phone, or the internet. His latest obsession is learning to use a cast net so we can catch minnows for bait, as they are almost impossible to find around here, and if you do find them, a good size Shiner is around $1.50-$2.00 each. Of course, I bought him one and we will learn together how to throw it.. Fishing is a great way to form lifelong bonds, it really is.. I wish more more dads would take their kids fishing, instead of handing their kids the latest and greatest Iphone, and then walking away. bob
