air 86* P. cloudy - water 83* rather clear @ 318CFS

My friend and I opted to wade a stretch of water I haven't waded in quite some time, the "Bound Brook Flats." We parked at the canal parking lot in SBB and walked up 1 mile to the 287 bridge where walked in. We could have walked up another 1/4 mile but I figured it best we walk a shorter route not knowing what we were up against. I think in the first 1/2 hour I hooked and lost 6 SMB. The fish seemed to be holding in pods. I walked down the right side, my friend down the left side. No rhyme or reason to where the fish were holding, fast, slow, it didn't matter. By the time we finished at the Queens Bridge we both had a bakers dozen of various sized SMB, my friend got the pool fish today. We worked our way below the bridge where I ran into another friend of mine. We picked away as we went another 1/8th of a mile before heading back. The river edges were choked with baitfish and tadpoles. Walking up 3 more people joined in the fishing on the Raritan river, South Bound Brook was a busy place today and I am ok with that ! Crossing over the Millstone on the way home I saw 1 person fishing and people launching kayaks. Wet wading is a great way to cool off in the summer. You can get SMB from Clinton Falls to Far Hills to Piscataway right now so get in while the fishing is good !!

As I kid we trapped and fished the Greenbrook near Middlesex. I lived in Bridgewater and could ride my bike down Mountain Ave to downtown Bound Brook and go to Efingers and get malt floats at Brasche's. From there it was a quick ride to fish the D&R canal. Most of my wet wading came when I lived in Finderne and would ride bikes and go to the river in Manville. I remember SMB all summer long on Gaines poppers and Black Ghost streamers.
