Second 7lb+ NJ LM in as many months, almost embarrassed to catch this fish given how little time I've devoted to targeting them compared to smallies and fluke...but that's fishing - it just takes one cast.
Clean hookup, clean release, public water (as always!)
rod - Megabass Destroyer P5 Mark 56
reel - Daiwa Tatula 200
bait - DRT Tiny Klash, lip in mode B
line - 16lb Sunline Sniper
Finally, just a friendly reminder that bed fishing...is for losers :)

If that's where I think it is, I've had two very memorable largemouth out of there many moons ago. Both pushing 7, but not over. Largemouth over 7 in NJ is a fantastic feat!

Awesome catch, great release and congrats, two no less. Can't agree more about fishing beds. Learn how to fish and you won't have to interfere with natures means of perpetuating the stock. If someone is that desperate to catch a trophy, learn pre and post spawn fishing. If you can't stay off the beds for what probably amounts to 2 weeks, take up another sport instead of ruining it for everyone else and the fishery. And the biggest problem are tournament elites who run tournaments right during the spawn for that exact reason, they should be eliminated during spawning months. It's all about money and everyone else has to pick up the tab for your greed.

I agree and beyond harassing already stressed out fish during spawn, I find it incredibly unsportsmanlike behavior. I know guys will say there's an art to it, that it takes skill to hook a big experienced female off beds :rolleyes::rolleyes: to me it's not fishing at all - they are nest guarding, not feeding.
You should see some of the tournaments won off livescoping bed fish down south. It's really quite gross how things are going in this sport.
I stay away from freshwater even in post spawn, bc then you're catching fish with 8 holes in its head, and I hate to see it. I'm pretty sure PA bans sight fishing during spawn, NJ has even more reason to do so with our small lakes and huge angling population.
