What is the best lure or jig to use to target Yellow Perch? Slow or fast retrieve?

They will hit anything.. Small spinners are good such as a Mepps or Rooster tail. I have caught a lot on small swimming plugs, spoons, as well.. The BEST artificial in my opinion are small, 1/8 or even 1/16 jigs... Bucktails are great, plastics also, such as twister tails, small sluggos, FinS, tube jigs, all work fine.. I personally would use a small bucktail around 1/8 ounce or less with 1/2 a garden worm on the hook.. If you don't catch Perch on that, they simply aren't there.. No need for lures to catch a lot of perch. A plain old worm will catch perch as well as anything else.. Some guys use small minnows, and perch love those as well, but there is no need.. perch love worms or small lures and will hit them readily..... bob

Did not see the retrieve question... Depends on the lure.. I don't use a real fast retrieve.. Perch can get aggressive and will hit anything moving slow or fast.. Other times, a plain old bounce the bottom slow retrieve works best.. They hit worms laying still on bottom, or floating fast under bobber thats racing across the surface on a windy day.. See what works best on that day.. Perch are not wary.. they are actually pretty dumb.. they can sometimes even get competitive when they are around in large numbers, and race one another to commit suicide on your hook...bob

1/64oz yellow or chartreuse jig head with a 1inch chartreuse gulp minnow under a slip float always works for us
