I cant be the only one that falls in this trap!...The river had come down to what I would consider ideal conditions, but the fish didn't want my first couple of offerings (my go-to lures for this area) so at that point I did something different....
Usually, I think many of us wading the river just keep moving, even if we change lures, we just keep moving; and I'm guilty of it, too. Even though I know I just fished great trout holding areas, I keep moving on to the next.
This time, I literally just kept doubling back with different techniques and lures through the same spots, and it paid off with a decent sized hard fighting rainbow and brown (and a handful of smaller browns).
They ignored multiple jigs in a variety of presentations and even ignored my first pass through with a jerkbait.... but the second time around with a smaller jerkbait and longer pauses just triggered the hell out of them, and I couldn't help but think about all the times I would've normally just kept moving on the the next spot.
A tip to myself and anyone else who cares to maybe consider being more methodical with trying different lures and techniques rather than covering as much water as possible.
