Recreational boat capsized at 8pm. Various reports of how many in the crew. One still missing. Best wishes ❤️. Search and Rescue in progress.

The individual, crew and family involved are in my prayers. Even with Lee far south and off the coast, the effects especially at inlets will be significant especially on outgoing tide. Nothing to fool around with and a boater sadly can get in trouble in a heartbeat.

I heard that 5 were aboard the boat and 4 were rescued.

There is also a video from the Manasquan Surf Cam that shows exactly what happened.

I hope they all are okay. That inlet can be tricky with a wind against the tide situation.

He was coming in and just short of the jetty he decided to do a uey but gets t boned by a huge breaker. One thing stands out and that is he was using a light bar headlight. He got too used to only seeing what was right in front of him an spooked when he saw the actual inlet water. With no lights he might have had a better view of 200 yards out

What a shame. Thoughts and prayers the family.

You can’t be tentative running an inlet in those conditions and the pause and slow down is what got that boat in trouble. You either wait outside or go for it. If you decide to go you better be on those throttles aggressively because if those waves are traveling faster than your boat there is no way to steer. Size doesn’t matter as much in these conditions either. In fact I’d bet an experienced person on a jet ski would have had a better shot of running that inlet than a 50 foot boat that was underpowered. Besides skill and experience, speed and power is what gets you through situations like this.
