Been seeing quite a few very large fish jumping a few miles out. They are never close enough to I.D but they are there. They look to be at least 4 ft long and they jump straight up completely out of the water. Anybody else seeing this? Any idea's what this might be? Thanks!

Spinner sharks probably. Possibly sturgeon but they are usually in the bay.

Sturgeon I don't think they are Sturgeon's or Rays. I have seen Sturgeon's in the bay these don't look like them. I'm almost thinking they are Tuna! But I'm not sure!

if they're jumping straight up im sure they're either Spanish mackerel or king mackerel. that would be my guess

could be king macks. was on a north jersey beach around this time last year and what appeared to be super-sized spanish mackerel were occasionally rocketing out of the water past the breakers. they were probably somewhere in the 3+ foot range in size, too big for spanish macks and they didn't jump straight up, more like an arch. i'm guessing they were king mackerel. never saw that before in all my years - amazing the southern visitors that wander up this way!

Look at the information that was supplied. 4’ long & jumping straight up. I have never seen a tuna jump straight up, no less one that was 48” long. Spanish Macks at 4’ is not an option. Kings that jump straight up would not be typical. I tried to upload a video of spinner sharks that we watched up close a few years back about 2 miles off Mantoloking but I couldn’t get it to transfer. My guess is spinners from my experience. If they were in the bay I would agree that they were sturgeon. The fact that they are off the beach rules them out for me.,

if they werent spinning, i'd go with king macks. We were getting them on jigs last summer while targeting bluefins. They def frequent these waters and they def go airborne on bait https://youtu.be/Fu_R0A5hwcE

For several years I've seen at least one sturgeon jumping near sandy hook. It's 4 or 5 feet long and makes a very big splash too.

I've seen them too although mostly inside the bay just west of the Chapel Hill Channel.. Scared the crap out of me one time night fishing before I knew what they were  My brother actually caught and released one a few years ago while Fluke fishing.

I'm going to have to go out to the area I am seeing these fish jump and troll some spoons and cedar plugs! I think it's Kings also!

Great video. I don't know if I'd be able to hold a camera during all of that. If I did, it would have to be a Go Pro strapped to my head so I could grab a rod and get a line in the water. Obviously there were other predators in that bait. The tuna was a surprise but there seemed to be some porpoises in the mix as well.
