It never ceases to amaze me how resiliant these fish can be. This gash looked pretty recent, yet fish still chased down my crankbait. Figure it may have been an Osprey or Eagle, no toothy fish where i caught it.

They definitely go through some hard times with all the predatory species in the water and flying above. Tough fish no doubt. :D

I caught a blind bluegill in the Millstone River this evening.

I have caught more than one fish with no upper or lower jaw,,, ripped off, gone! Mostly pickerel or LMB that some moron ripped the hook out of or something when they were small,,, Matter of fact, we caught one again this past summer in cayuga lake.. i have NO idea how they eat, or even "breathe" properly, but they manage ok.. Caught some blind fish, and some with truly horrible injuries, no tail fins, etc yet they were still eating, and otherwise seemed healthy enough to survive ,,,

Looks like a snapping turtle tried to grab him from below. Fish have a tough life!!

Don't forget the most fearsome of predators - homo sapiens during spawn - ripping fish off their beds and snapping photos for instagram.

I caught a half blind bass with a stringer fastened to it's lower jaw at Santee lakes .I think it went blind from laying on it's side due to the stringer pulling it constantly to the bottom. It didn't stop it from eating a 6" Mann's jellyworm.

Boat electrofishing Swimming River Reservoir we captured a chunky 3 lb. LMB. His lower jaw had been split right in the middle, from the front to the back, but not recently, as the edges had healed over. Down his throat, the 2 webbed feet of a duckling were visible. Maybe the split enabled the lower jaw to open even wider.
