Picked up a couple of 4oz and 7oz for Tuna. They came rigged with split rings that look a little light. Does anyone know if guys are changing them out or fishing as is?

I fish them as-is. For what guys are catching inshore and around the AP, etc., those rings arent opening. Offshore I MIGHT change them but they use quality terminal with all of their lures and jigs. The BKK hooks are solid.

Thanks Jigman. Didn't want to find out the hard way.

On the flip side... "when in doubt, change em' out!"

one less thing to worry about then :)

Should be tying both your hook and your fishing line to a solid ring .
Split ring only has to hold the weight of the jig to the solid ring
.
I never tie to a split ring for tuna , not only can they open , the line can chafe when getting worked into the ring

I see what you are saying. I was thinking the line tie was to the split ring. Thanks.
