Hopped on a NS yesterday to partake in the strong summer bluefishing that we’ve haven’t had in several years. Acres of bunker pods once we broke the inlet. Steamed north to just past the next inlet and had the spot to ourselves which resulted in a nice 15-20 minute bite with blues to #8. Other boats soon joined & the bite died. Started working back south stopping on readings catching fish at each stop. Worked our way back to our home inlet then turned north again. Once again catching at most stops until the south wind knocked in around noon then it died off to a slow pick. Never fished more than 1/2 off the beach and at times only a hundred yards or so outside the outer bar. Fished in water from 20-35’. I ended the day with 25+ ranging from #2-6. Caught everything on either a plain A17 or a 1.25 ounce epoxy jig.
Side notes;
-Seems as if the bigger fish were to the north. As we worked our way south the size decreased on each drop. The fish by the southern inlet were in the #2 class, when we worked our way back north they got bigger again.
-Haven’t not seen some many pods of dolphins in a very long time with a good amount of juveniles in the mix.
