Low water on the west branch so our guide took us out to the lower east branch and into the main stem. Sunny day + clear water and a lot of trout homing in on topwater flies, however plugs still put some fish in the boat. Jigs were good for deeper holes but no trout taken there, just walleye smbs and fallfish. Most trout were caught in skinnier and faster water.
We might revisit soon via canoe, last year the smb bite was incredibly fun.

Nice fish.
There are some gigantic fall fish in the D. I've gotten big ones near Milford and Columbia fishing buggers for smb.

yes and TBH they're just as fun as the other fish, they hit jigs and fight pretty decently. That one Nick has in the picture was all lit up and had the horns too. We will be trying those parts of the D soon
AWESOME! My brother lives just a few miles from the East Branch.

Interesting mixed catch. When I was 17, I had a musky of about 20 pounds take a fallfish I trolled at the river's surface. Never got a good hookset.
Can tell that was a wonderful day up there.

Looks like a great trip, is this the East branch in New York? Sorry if that’s a stupid question, but it looks like somewhere I’d like to take the kayak. Not looking for any secret spots, but if you wouldn’t mind a point in the right direction I’d really appreciate it...thanks

yes we started on the east branch Delaware in NY (around Hancock) a bit then went down to the mainstem.
Plenty of access spots, pick which one depending on how far you want to float down :D I saw some kayakers and canoes that day and water was low so I didnt see any terrible rough rapids

Thanks for the info, appreciate it. Is that stretch of river slow enough to paddle back up stream? Or would it require a pick up vehicle?
Thanks again!

pick up vehicle. it's pretty much slow run> tail-out which picks up speed> fast shallow riffles > run > repeat, you could try hitting slow stretches and seeing how far you'd like to paddle up and then float down, but you will be hitting fast water shortly.
