joined the 50 inch musky club the other week with this absolutely thick monster!

The day didn't start off too well... after not being able to find anyone to join me (makes handling big fish so much easier)... I closed the garage door on the boat pulling out.... left ALL of my rods on the steps (yes i was literally 10 minutes into my drive before i realized i had ZERO rods with me).... broke one of the guide feet rushing to put the rods in the truck after i went back to get them...

I seriously wondered if i should just go back to sleep before i killed myself cause my brain clearly wasn't functioning. Fortunately, I enjoy suffering for the fish so i just kept going onward haha, and obviously glad i did!

Fighting and netting this beast solo took some weird, yoga-like poses, but i got it done. Thankfully, a fellow angler that recognized me came over in his boat and was able to help me get a great picture and quick measurement that i would never have been able to even accomplish solo!

I'm thinking I will have to fork over most of my tax return to get this legendary fish mounted!

What an awesome post! Great catch Man! I think it makes it better that you were solo. Keeping composure while trying to stear her in couldn't get more intense! Thanks for sharing this battle.

I'm pretty sure that gut was full of stocked trout, you could kind of see the outlines in person (can't see in the pic) it def didn't seem like eggs and it wasn't releasing any when i handled it. I can tell you it was def feeding heavy in an area where many stocked trout were jumping around though.

yeah for sure, but it's just nicer once the fish is captured if you have another set of hands to get a nice picture and accurate measurement without taking too long or fumbling around with the fish. I'm def glad the dude came over and helped me with that part after the successful fight

it doesn't happen often, but sometimes my brain just fails to function properly hahaha... in this case, those big rods only fit in my truck if i can open the door all the way. I was parked too close to the front steps while hitching the boat up so i had them on the steps until i pulled half out and could fit them in... that was around the time i closed the garage door before i pulled the boat all the way out and then i just drove away without them HAHAHA.

I've jumped in my kayak without a paddle once too and started fishing drifting down the river about 50 yards before i noticed

Honestly... if you want to catch a musky, just accept the fact that you probably won’t catch one for multiple trips and that way you wont get discouraged and will keep going. If you just keep devoting time to them, eventually it will happen.

Sage advice. Expect relentless disappointment and appreciate the reward if/when it happens.
