Ice Fishing Bumper Sticker

I was on my way toward Lake Hopatcong last week before the snow just to see how things were going. As I was getting closer to the lake, I spotted a pickup truck with an amusing bumper sticker. It simply read " Ice Fishermen are Hard Core ". Nothing else needs to be said. That bumper sticker explained everything. When I saw the guys drilling holes and trying to stay warm, all layered up on a day when the temperature was in the low 20's with wind chills making it even colder, that bumper sticker might as well have been the size of a billboard.

That is true it takes a special type of wacko to go ice fishing it is not for the weak of heart, if you dress in layers you can withstand just about all types of cold weather. I have a bumper sticker that reads"THIS IS THE ONLY FLAG THAT I KNEEL TO" and it has a polar tip up next to it.

And speaking of special kind of whacko, 10 years ago I sent a query to NJ Monthly about a short essay on ice fishing. Editor got back to me & said he wanted it "because I think you guys are friggin' nuts and I just want to hear why you do it."
