The Gamblers Sunday night Tuna trip was cancelled so I jumped on the Striper trip instead. We left the inlet and turned left. We only saw a couple of Bluefin break and kept heading up the line. We saw some life close to the channel and Capt. Bob put her on the drift. The first fish was a keeper Tog. Then a Bluefish. I got picked up on the sink a couple times but didn't come tight. My first fish was a huge Searobin. A couple drifts later the first slot Striper was boated. I got a Bluefish and dropped another by the boat. We could see a few fish break but with the winds and swell it was hard. I saw one nice Striper caught on a topwater. I finally got the right bite and boated a slot fish. I got another Bluefish a few casts later. At the end of the day we had a few Stripers and a bunch of Bluefish. We had enough Bluefish so anyone who wanted a bag of Bluefish fillets could take one.
I caught all my fish on a plain ava 47. Only the robin stayed pinned on the up current side for me. Everything else was down current 2 to 20 turns off the bottom. The drift was fast and the swell built as the day progressed. If you didn't turn the handle you didn't get bit. Regular retrieve worked for me. Thank you Capt. Bob,Niko,Jill, and John for staying in top of it in less than ideal conditoins.
