I was out two weeks ago on a 30 hour tuna trip. Spent the overnight in the deep
No tuna bite so I decided to put a swordfish rig down about 350 feet. Rig was a 16/0 3x strong circle hook 12 feet of 300# leader 3 way swivel that held the weight and a green glow stick. Bait was whole mackerel and strip baits of fresh false Albie. Had 4 solid bites that didn’t come tight. The last one I let run for over 100 yards. Should I switch to J hooks or stick with the circles. I thought I was doing something wrong but even the mates were amazed that I didn’t hook up. Going again this Friday night. Any ideas or insight would be appreciated

No circles for swords. You're better off hooking them deep with #300 leader and a J hook. Their mouths are soft. A circle will wear down and tear out on a good fish.

We use 11/0 or 12/0 jobu hooks depending on bait size, 3x. And light-ish drag in case its mouth hooked. Get yourself some LP disco lights. Theyre cheap. At 350', the pressure will likely crack a glow stick rendering it useless.

Then again, w 4 takes in one night perhaps I should be getting advice from you hahaha...

12/0, straight eye, offset, long liner hook. Always a nice deep hook set.

Think I bought em at fisherman’s supply a while back so check there.
