I saw a Blue Crab while fishing the Raritan River in Somerset under the 287 bridge off Easton Ave. Never seen one that far up the river before. Has anyone come across blue crab in freshwater like that?

I saw one by bound brook just last week. And a few years ago netted a live one (and also saw a needlefish swimming) a bit downstream of the bridge you mention.

I heard one year there was a seal at the fish ladder (or some sort of mammal) If you see grandpa Bill on the canal/ladder you can ask him, I think he took a photo.

Sooner or later we will find a sturgeon :D

Always see them up to Queens Bridge, once in a while up to the ladder.

Say several blue crabs at the former Calco pipe many years ago. When the flow gets low, the salt line creeps further up river.

Good point, also added effect of the higher tides from the full moon potentially

I saw blueclaw crabs in the Delaware River near Trenton. A biologist said that they were from ship ballast.

With the lack of rain (until yesterday,...I got 3.5"), it is not surprising.
During low flow late summers we would often collect blue claw crabs at the Delaware River, Trenton seining site for juvenile American Shad. One year we collected Bay Anchovies.

Raritan is UP and flowing hard, but despite the 8000 CFS and white caps, THIS guy is seen up near manville today!

it wasnt blue that's for sure, it crawled back up the wall and was nearly at my feet later into the evening. Im not good at crabs but looking up green crabs online, it surely looked more like that than a blue claw'd

If you see crabs in the river you need scissors and bottom sweeper jigs.
1. Cut Blue Claw into quarters.
2. Cut legs off.
3. Hook quartered crab in through the meat and out through a leg socket.
4. Hold on tight! Could be Redfish and Drum running after those tasty little Crabs.
Lol!!!:D
