I’m in the market for a few new reels... I have need at least three so I don’t want to spend a fortune and based on reviews and what I’ve seen on the boats the penn battle 2 and the diawa BG are on the menu... I want thoughts and reviews from the board on their opinions. Both are rated great and very affordable but which one and why...
just to clarify I fish for everything you can catch on a party boat and big as mich as I can. So from fluke to tog to sea bass, blues and stripers
Thanks

Penn battles are a great reel at a moderate price .
I use a 3500 to catch everything you have listed .

I was leaning that way. You just confirmed it...

Daiwa BGs get my vote. I have several of the latest ones and love them. I also have several BGs that I bought back in the mid & late 1980’s that I love. Have them serviced (lubed & new drag washers) at least every other year (depending on how hard I fished them)

I have both and prefer the Penn. I find it smoother and stronger but what do I know. Lol

Check out the new conflict from Penn. The battles are heavy as hell. Spend a bit more and theyll last.
If going daiwa go ballistic. Way up from the BG. Lighter too.

+1 vote for the Penn Battle II
I have a 3000 and 4000 series on 2 of my setups and am very happy w/ them.
Durable, high quality and will not break the bank.

I have a few friends fishing the BG and Ballistic. Getting good service out of them.

I have a penn battle that is about 7 yrs old and it has taking a beating with very little maintenance. I should have kept up on it better but I have no complaints and it was very affordable at the time
