White Lake has a large variety of fish, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, pickerel, Carp, Bluegills, and quite a few trout. The water in this lake is probably the clearest water you have ever seen in NJ so that being said it can be tough fishing but you cAn be rewarded with some decent size fish. The deepest part is about 45 feet deep so I used to fish the drop offs and use a long fluorocarbon leader. The bottom of the lake is covered with freshwater mollusks and is really white in color so you can see the bottom up to about 20 foot deep so it’s easy to see the drop off spots. Delaware lake is completely opposite water, it’s a typical NJ lake darker water maybe 20 foot deep and no trout but lots of crappie, pickerel, Bass and perch

Thanks hbird! I really appreciate the info. I’m going to hit white lake Saturday.
I’ve checked it out on line and there is a pretty cool history there. I just couldn’t find a lot of info on the fishing. Your reply really helps, thanks

Great advice, NJ, thanks. I’ll go with Delaware lake if it’s a bright weekend.
Either way, I’m putting the kayak in my truck Friday night, and hopefully not putting it back in the garage until Monday night.

I really wanted to get out to White Lake last year, but never made the venture. It would've been my first visit, so I can't offer up any experience. You're right though, seems like an interesting place to get out on the water but not much info on the fishing except you have a shot at trout. Please post a report if you wind up there. Good Luck.

Yup you are correct that would be my bad for putting Smallmouth in my post. I apologize for posting the incorrect information. Not trying to make any excuses but I was reading some articles about Smallmouth fishing before i got on the site. I have fished White lake for about 35 years, I was fortunate enough to have access to it when it was private and way back then the Largemouth Bass fishing was phenomenal. Seems to be better trout fishing then bass fishing now

Fished Delaware lake yesterday, nice lake, very very weedy. Got the skunk.
Went to white lake today. Beautiful lake, clear, very few weeds. Got 5 nice bass, no trout though. Great day!
Happy Memorial Day!

You definitely can’t complain about that! For the first time fishing that lake I would say it was a good day. What did you think of the lake? Beautiful crystal clear water that you don’t find in NJ to often right?

Hbird....definitely a beautiful lake. I thought I’d have better luck with trout, I fished spinners, live bait, eggs. I tried all levels of the water column, but I’m not complaining at all! All the bass were caught on 4 lb test on my UL rod. I’ll be back for sure. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the report Stella Blue. Sounds like a really nice first trip on a clear lake! Plus you got redemption from the skunk on Delaware.

You’re welcome Fred, thank you and everyone else for their input.
I haven’t fished freshwater in a long time, it’s been all salt for me, having sold my boat, I have been really getting back into the freshwater. Fishing that lake from the kayak was really cool. It’s a lot of fun learning new techniques, and trying to figure out where the fish will be. I didn’t get those bass until around hour 5 of fishing. It’s rewarding when you put all the pieces together, then make that perfect cast to the spot you wanted to hit and are rewarded with a solid rap from a nice bass. Can’t wait till my next trip! Thanks again everyone for your input.
