How does this not specify length of boat? Obviously 10 on a 60 footer is whole lot different than 10 on 100?
No makeup or shared charters? That makes no sense either.

The whole thing goes back to when he first started with the orders....10 was the number not to exceed for any Social Gatherings. From what I've heard the crap rolled down hill and someone forgot to change the script before announcing the opening. Praying it gets straightened out before Friday.

Heard the same thing from a FG supervisor.
He said it was written like that because of the 10 person limit on all gatherings, and that if he changed it for the head boats he would have to change it for other parts of the state. And he wasn’t willing to do that

So does the 10 person limit include captain and crew? If it does, your telling me with a captain and a deckhand an 80 foot vessel is sailing with 8 fares?
And what’s up with no open boat or fill in charters? That’s basically a head boat on a smaller scale? What’s the difference ?

See Highland boats offering fares in excess of 10. Has EO 146 been updated to allow more than 10 on vessel? Has anyone told Bogan on Gambler who doesn't plan on leaving dock if 10 fare max?

Captain Bob is very much on his game, it's what we all do. If we were allowed to sail only with 8 customers, I would be putting the boat back in Dry Dock Myself.
We are now at 25 passengers, it's a start. Hopefully that number will increase soon so I personally don't loose all my Charters!!!
Praying for all the Restaurants, Barbers and everyone else who is Self-Employed, were all in this crap show together!!!

Hey Ron, hope all is well.
What regulates the ammount of passengers, the size of the boat ? How do some get 4, 10 or 25 ?

I'm sure others will offer opinions, here's mine.
What makes most sense to me on any boat is not necessarily taking the number of passengers your boat is licensed for and reduce that amount by x%. It should be the amount of deck space you have divided by 6 feet so you can maintain safe social distancing.
Take an 80 foot party boat as an example. You have 80 feet of rail space on each side and 20 feet of stern rail giving you a total of 180 feet of rail space. Divide that by 6 and you have room for 30..
Like Captain Ron mentioned, I believe the 10 in the Executive Order is based on the general number of people allowed to gather at this time which but makes little sense since there is no regard for the size of the boat.
What ever the case, this Executive Order needs to be officially changed to include sensible rules for Party Boats. In the mean time party boat owners are making some responsible/sensible rules like above while this gets sorted out.
Another thing to consider is maintaining your social distance while you're around other people since from a practical standpoint, people need to and will want to move around. I think a good rule of thumb here is what I call the "reach out your arms and add a foot". A person's arm length is equal to their height so lets say to be on the safe side, the average person is 5 feet tall so if you were to spread your arms out you'd have 5 feet. If the person next to you did the same and you'd add another foot between you, you'd be at least 6 foot apart.
This business is hard enough and we don't need to make it harder. Now here are some really important things to remember when you get out on your next fishing trip, be it on a charter or party boat.
- First and foremost, listen to the Captains and crews instructions when you board and if you don't intend to abide by them, do everyone a favor and get off the boat.
- We all have our own personal opinions on what we are willing or not willing to do in respect to masks, gloves, our own personal space etc. This is not about what you feel comfortable with or without, it's about everyone you're with so respect each others space and follow the rules.
- Don't rely on the boat to supply masks and or gloves or sanitizer. It's your responsibility to bring your own.
- Lastly, there are a lot of people on edge these days and tempers tend to flare up a lot quicker. Don't be that guy and decide you want to make a stand. If a Captain, crew or another passengers asks you to move or do something, don't put up a stink, just do it.
I know for some, these are some tough pills to swallow but until we get back to normal, when and whatever the new normal is going to be, we all have to pitch in and make the best of it. It's either that or you can always choose to stay home and let others willing to follow the rules fish responsibly.

Gerry,
Let me preface my comments by stating no one wants the party/charter boat captains to resume sailing more than I. However, as you mentioned they are making their OWN rules, no matter how sensible they may be. Others have already tried that approach. I point to a certain gym owner(s) in Bellmawr who also decided that he had a sensible approach to re-opening even though that approach did not meet the governor's EO. The party boat captains will be sailing in front of very large beachgoing crowds this weekend who can count. They will be turning away potential fares who exceed their own "rules" which will cause some resentment. Both of these factors open these captains up to the risk of some disgruntled person blowing the whistle and risking the more compliant of the fleet in jeopardy of being closed down with them. I can tell you from experience this will happen. I am a member of my golf community board in FL and when golf was allowed to remain open while our tennis and pool operations were shut down I was inundated with complaints from residents. ALL were either pool or tennis fans who were upset they could not enjoy their passions while they watched others outside their condos (golfers) enjoying theirs. We had daily visits from the sheriff's office regarding anonymous complaints phoned in to their hotline. Luckily we had no violations although we were "treading on eggshells" every day.
Capt. Ron and others should understand their actions will affect others in their industry. IMHO the prudent choice, as hard as it will be, is to follow the current rules until sensible changes can be made by the governor's office.

Gerry, your math also only works assuming not everyone goes into the cabin. That will be hard to police during hot sunny days.
Gerry Zagorski

People should be 6 feet apart at all times John and that goes for in the cabin as well..
What they can do is have a limit for number of people allowed in the cabin based on square footage... E.G. say the cabin is 50 x 15 that gives you 750 square feet and if each person needs 6 square feet 6 x 6 gives you 36 so your cabin capacity would be limited to 20.

Just found out the original Executive Order for a limit of 10 on Party Boats is being revised immediately... Not sure of the details just yet but will post them here as they become available....
