Went out Saturday morning and decided to check the Raritan for some trout even though i figured it would be flowing a bit too much and it was. Tried for a bit but it wasnt happening so I Made a run to my local puddle to try for some bass because it was so nice out but no luck. Woke up Sunday and decided i wanted some quality bass so I made a run to assunpink. Decided last minute so didnt bring the boat. Got there and there were a lottt of boats on the water. Had to be a couple dozen or more just at the start of morning. Hit my first spot and landed a fiesty chunk. I swear the bass at assunpink fight better than anyone else. Caught him on the black and blue jig with a black and blue rage tail. He weighed in at 2 and a half pounds. Was about another hour and couple spot moves before i landed my second. It had probably been a couple years since i last used a jig so I was getting my flow back, casted between some pads, 1 hop and got CRUSHEDD! Right off the bat she was wrapped. Started slowly making my way threw some pads for a better angle, pulling him threw pads as i went. Took a couple mins but to my surprise I made my way and landed her. Weighed in at 3 and half pounds..i had to do it 3 times because i could swear he was just as big if not atleast longer than my 5 pounder last year but she wasnt. Spent a little longer but nothing else. Couple of quality fish I will take every time over quantity. Came home and checked my scale with a weight just to make sure and unfortunately it was spot on haha. Hope you all enjoyed the couple of beautiful days. Tight lines!!
Bonus baby geese in the pads where i caught the big girl

Great fishing man! Some healthy Bass in that place for sure.:D You live down there? Dude, do me a favor! Please? Fish Assunpink at night with topwater in late June-August. You’ll thank me later! Frogs, Whopper Ploppers, Buzzbaits......

There is okay shore access at certain spots, but i wouldnt say good. Even at the more open spots, I would recommend waders to get a little more of a clearing.
FASTEDDIE- Thanks brother. I'm in Matawan so its like 35 mins to Assunpink. I plan on making that my home bass lake. Will def report back when I make those night trips

I never find the size at Lefferts. I have a few in the area where I get my quantity, but as of lately I find so much more satisfaction in 1 or 2 big bass than 6 or 7 smaller bass.

Yes I hear ya. Lefferts could be tough.I almost gave up on it and then I got a decent one (18.5”) a few years back. I get a few nice ones every year but I have to work hard for them. And the big pickerel keep it interesting.
If haven’t pulled the trigger on a boat yet give me a text and we’ll hit that other place up. I have little bass boat . I’ve been looking to get down there. You should have my number in your PMs.

Hows that canoe rental at Lefferts? I might try it with the gf later in the summer and seek out panfish.

It’s through the Matawan Recreation department.
Probably Covid closed until further notice.
I have a aluminum canoe for sale if interested.

I was at that lake today. Not sure is the rentals are open or closed, but the area where canoe rental is there was no one around. Looked closed.

Love to see some nice bass caught. Even better, a man with a scale, not many seem to use a scale these days, and call their 3lbers 5lbers...LOL
How much shoreline access is there to Assunpink ?
Andy,
There are 5 Lakes in Assunpink. There is quite a bit of shore line and you can drive down the many access roads. The main lake is the largest. It has a wide boat launch, a long dam and a few access points you can drive to.

Lefferts is infested with pickerel. Its now to the point i think it might actually be a problem. Its always my plan b when i take the yak for spring stripers and the weather is iffy. Its only like 10 minutes from my rb yak spots.
