Is anyone else getting an obnoxious pop up on the bottom of the site? It is so large that it blocks more than half the screen on my phone.

Don't click the link to unsubscribe. That just gives them information of a valid email address.
At 1st I thought it was malware on my laptop but tried it with a few different browsers + phone and got the same thing.
After some research Infolinks is a marketing company that sells advertising space. No virus or anything to worry about IMO.

i agree, the new huge ads take up a ridiculous amount of space. losing 1/3 or 1/2 of an already small cell phone screen sucks!

Correct on both accounts. Unsubscribing validates data on ads such as this and they will begin targeting you with more ads.
Infolinks basically buys up remnant space on the display network and resells at a slightly higher cost per thousand to earn some dollars. Volume based--not quality. They likely fold the impression-based campaigns into packages including other digital media products. The text-based ads you see lacking image or graphic design creative is a tell-tale sign of this...
I'll jump off my digital marketing nerdery soap box now LOL

Working on this so please bare with us... I think most of the issues is how these ads appear on mobile devises like phones and tablets since they occupy too much of the screen so trying to work with them on that... The other thing is when you pinch and zoom the add also gets bigger which is really annoying.
If can't get some fixes done soon, I'll likely shut them down all together.
If you have any specific input, complaints or suggestions shoot me an email at njfishing@aol.com
Thanks!

quick update here... Just spoke to info links and looks like we can put a fix in place to make sure people coming here on Mobile devices only see one ad in a 24 hour time period. Not sure how quickly it will get done but we're working on it.

Nah... we need to be socially responsible, so maybe some toilet paper ads :)

Well I was working on some fixes with the people at infolinks and until the issues can be resolved and the horrible experience we have on mobile devices, I've decided removed all the ads on the site temporarily.
Thanks for all the calls, texts and emails on this... Thought we'd have a quick fix but apparently not.
I'll get it figured out...

Guys-
This is a free site. Did you forget? He needs to generate revenue and that is one of his vehicles to do so. I do agree that the pop-ups are annoying and he did say yesterday that he is working to get it corrected. Would you rather pay an annual fee to belong to this site? My guess is no. Give him time to fix it. (and no i do not know gerry personally or have had the pleasure to meet with him in person)

Yes.
People have said this many times, that they would like to be able to do "Site Supporter" type subscriptions, instead of more ads

I would be down for this as well. Or maybe a paid subscriber version of the site without ads. Let all the lurkers deal with the annoying popups
Not sure how infolinks pays out put have to imagine the only way to make $ is by having something click through an ad and purchase something. I am seeing ads for Febreze, Dansai, verizon and other crap that i would never buy.

Still figuring it out... I turned them back on when I was told we should not be seeing the ads on mobile devices where I feel the experience is unacceptable. If you are seeing ads on your phone, let me know.

As you can plainly see I'm trying to monitize the traffic on the site. We all need to make a living and ads on this site are part of that strategy... However, I am not naive enough to ignore the fact that ads, depending on how they are implemented, can turn people off and I need to balance $$$ with the user experience so I appreciate the feedback here.
I know there are a lot of people on edge these days, I am too so I'd ask that we all be have a little extra patience as I sort through the issues and not go off the deep end here...
Here is where I'm at....
- When we first implemented these ads I was told that I'd have a little more control over the frequency they would appear.
- I was also had no idea how in your face they would be on mobile devices
- Fast forward to a few day ago when I turned them off temporarily because the fixes were not in place.
- I was told the fixes were in place for two things. 1) no more ads on mobile and 2) they had adjusted the frequency of the ads so they would not persist on every new page you visit.
- Looks like no more ads on mobile was taken care of but the frequency of ads did not change which I am inquiring about right now.
So, I need to ask a favor of all of you. Please bear with and support me as I get this figured out and if I can't make ads appear in a fashion that I see fit and or the fixes I'm expecting don't happen fast enough, I will turn them off.
Thanks, I think I'll go argue with my wife and kick the cat a few more times :D

Update - the ads are now turned completely off again since infolinks could not give me definitive dates/answers to some of the outstanding issues we've all encountered.
Just what I need.... More stress :(:(
