Hit the river after an emergency dental appointment this morning. Threw the plugs around and didn’t have any follows or swipes at all. I could t believe it on such a nice day. Here we go again, back to the black and olive Outofline Jig. I jig here and there and still nobody’s home. I finally send the jig into a deeper, darker hole and get slammed. Almost felt like a Walleye grabbing a jig on the drop. This fish was off to the races immediately. First place she goes is up into some fast water and I’m kinda of crapping my pants with the 3 lb. test line I like to use. Then the fish is headed down into a bunch of boulders with a branch in the middle. I’m like, “This is bad, I’m gona loose her!” Did some dancing downstream and had to hand my rod to myself around some giant trees! No waders! Haha! Fish won’t quit and stays deep peeling drag up river again and then down! This goes on for like 15 minutes, no joke. My reel was screaming. Holy Moly! I finally got the fish to the surface and landed her about 50-60 yards downstream from where I initially hooked her. Huge head, silver bodied, massive Tiger Trout! Yep, my hands are shaking, adrenalines pumping. My first guesstimate is around 21 inches. Nope! After a revival session I hold the fish next to my rod to see how she measures up against the breeder Bow I got last month. I made a notch in my rod for that 21.5 inch Rainbow.
Oh baby, she’s an easy 3 inches past that notch I made in the rod. I’m stoked! This fish is approximately 24-25 inches long and has full fins that are like 2 inches. Just WOW! She has a hard time swimming away after the 15 minute battle. I had to jump in the water to grab her and try reviving her again. See release video on NJFishing.com FB page! After about 10 minutes she swam off and hung close to the shoreline. I went back to my truck to sit down for 10 minutes. Went back down to the river to see if she was still there but thankfully she swam off somewhere! What an afternoon! TIGHT LINEZ!!!:D
