If you could get a fresh water rod and reel from Cabelas, what would you get I got like 300. I’ll be using it from my scanoe 6 to 8 PD line range. I’ll be fishing mainly for perch, trout, bass, pickerel and cats. Keep in mind I enjoy fishing from my scanoe for most of these species with a light weight trout pole and 6 pound line. I would love to get something long casting. Clearly I don’t HAVE to spend it all on that. Want to get some tip ups too!

Daiwa BG 2500 has done me good so far. Maybe you could go with a smaller size tho.

in general if you're spending over 100-150 bucks on a reel shimano and daiwa are really good and just match the size you want. one or two sizes up from the smallest versions are usually good for lightish fw fishing but won't leave you completely stunned if you hook something much bigger. if you want to save money, it's hard to beat pfluger reels on the lower price range. the president is probably the best reel under $60.

for a rod i'd say look at the light- medlight st croix or fenwicks maybe like 7-7.5' if you want further casting. just go hold them, put the combos together and see what feels good. I really like a lot of the shimano rods too, even the lower priced ones like the clarus.

I have a clarus myself, pair it with the bg for general fishing. Great feel, and The colors match :D

x3 on the Clarus, awesome rods for the price. I have a 7ft MH Clarus I pair with a Penn SS2500 for fishing cover with heavier lures and it's a great combo.

Daiwa tatula 2500 or 3000 paired with a 7' shimano slx. Get your hands on one if ya can. It's a $100 rod that feels better than a $100 rod. The reel will run you about $189.

I use a daiwa ballistic LT. Higher price point but worth it.

Pfluegar president Xt reel
Fenwick HMG rod .
300 bucks would buy 2 set ups that could catch anything you could ever want to fish for.

The best setup I have, and I bought at Cabelas is a St. Croix Premier series rod and a Quantum Accurist reel. Absolutely love this setup.
