Had a pretty cool opportunity to go to London and the Isle of Man for work a few weeks back. While on the island, I did a bit of googling and found out the island is actually known for it's trout and saltwater fisheries. Since I didn't bring any of my own gear, I called up the only guide on the island and we agreed to meet up after work one day to do some fishing.

The only day we were both available to fish was raining with 20 mph winds, and my guide was mainly a fly fisherman. Between finding an area where we were slightly sheltered from the wind, and using some heavier gear (8 wt sinking wf line), casting in the wind wasn't too bad. Over the course of 3 hours, I managed to catch half a dozen trout around 2-3 pounds. I ended the night with the biggest fish of the trip. The last fish was definitely one of the most intense fights I've ever experienced. The fish was super aerial, jumping clear out of the water multiple times. Hopefully I can find a similar size monster here in NJ.

Cool.....

casting a fly rod in that wind must have sucked. And rainbows???? Catching an American immigrant fish in Scotland is cool but couldn't the guide have gotten you on some brown trout in their native homeland?
