Awesome, I am from and grew up there, glad to see proactivity in trying to put a dent in pollution ruining a river that holds a lot of fishing memories for me. First place Shucker took me fishing!

Ahhhhh yes, home sweet home! That is an amazing clean up! Lots of hard work there. Wow! Thanks to everyone involved. Any body parts or test monkeys from Merck found? Haha! :D

Everything flows downstream. In this case, the tidal part of the Rahway is about as downstream as you can get. There is current in that section but for that much junk to be washed there from too far from where it was dumped seems unlikely. There would have had to be a biblical flood to move that much stuff from too far upstream.

Still, it was there and now it's gone and that is fantastic. We are all better off because of your efforts and those of your volunteers. That river is where many of us old timers were introduced to fishing. I've seen it undergo many alterations to curtail the inevitable flooding but places like Cranford still backup and spill into the neighborhoods. The biggest eyesores in the upper river are all of the floatables that wash into it. I pick up what I can, when I can, where I can, but it's a big river.

Keep up the great work, Andy.

As you drive through heavily populated sections of NY state, and then Pa, and pass rivers and streams, you never see garbage like that.. In all my years I have never seen anything like it. So many NJ stream are always full of junk.
Seems like all of NJ dumps their garbage in the waterways, and on the streets..

I know thats not true of course, but for someone thats never been there before, that would be the perception.
We have cities and large suburban areas with high population density here as well, but you just don't see the garbage in the water and on the roads.
Its always been that way in NJ for some reason, even when I was a kid.. The Passaic River always looked like a landfill when I was a kid in Lyndhurst...

The NJ DEC does a GREAT job maintaining a terrific freshwater fishery against monumental odds.
The citizens on NJ simply don't seem to appreciate what they have... bob
