Dry Flies

I went to PA on Sunday and with all of my flies, I did not have a 14 BWO. So, I was out of luck. I am in Morris County and looking for a nice river with hatching now.

Will probably look to get out on Sat + Sun this week in NJ.

Ive notice wild trout taking topwater im the calm parts of the streams. But Everytime ive seen this they also hit subsurface stuff.

I never had a day where theyre exclusively dry flies, thats just coming from my NJ stream experience.

If you want topwater action, maybe consider a topwater streamer? Or if youre really picky and want action on dry fly try the tiny wild trout streams.

Plenty of flies hatching in your (and my) area. I've seen sulfurs, red quills, and various caddis hatching for the last month BUT the damn rain is reeking havoc. Dirty water will severely limit the surface feeding trout and since it can't stop raining every day the hatches haven't been very fishable on a consistent basis.

If we can go a good 5 days without a storm you'll really see things break out. I'm in the same boat, tired of fishing streamers, I need the water come down a bit and clear so I can fish wets near the surface and dries on it.

I am fishing Hacklebarney... nothing there hatch wise.

If you are using wet, the Rainbow Nymph BH 16 is working great for me.

Plus, the Copper John emerger 16 is a plus too.

I've never found the Black to have the hatches that the SBR, Musky, Pequest, and BFB. But I've not spent as much time there as the other places.

Sure. Just watch the water temps. I carry a thermometer and won't fish over 68 degree water temps unless I plan on keeping one for the grill. With stream levels the way they are we may have good fishing through early July unless it gets dry and hot real quick.

I just bought a new thermometer for this reason as I catch and release only these days.

Strongly considering getting a PA License to do the Brodhead Creek very often.
