Is Mercer Lake a good lake to catch crappies? Tired sitting on the couch looking for recommendations in Middlesex County for some crappie fishing. Thanks in advance.

I have never caught too many at Mercer, we tried a few times for them with beetle spins and weighted grubs but we caught what I think are large alewife
But farrington and Davidson are pretty good crappie in middlesex county, lots of guys fish off church lane bridge for them

Those were likely gizzard shad. Mercer cant support alewife herring.
And fyi, there was a recent fish kill at mercer earlier this week. Guy I spoke with said lots of dead panfish and shad. Not sure if f&g were contacted though.
Re: crappie there, I think state record white came from mercer.

Gizzard shad, yes. Fun on the ultra lite and we caught them by the dozens.
My son loved it on a tiny rapala
It was like every other cast. Lots of fun

Gizzard shad on Rapalas on every other cast ? I thought with that tiny mouth a small piece of bread would work, they just eat vegetation and small stuff correct ? The majority of Gizzard Shad I have seen were snagged by accident.

I guess if you say so, must be true. The rapala was 1.5inch. The fish caught looked like an alwife to me, but I’m told they are not in that lake. It was 4-7inch baitfish looking fish and my 11 year old was having a good time. Thanks
