Chris, I have so much money wrapped up with regular fishing, I couldn't even imagine buying all new gear for ice fishing. I would be in like flint if the wife liked it like open water fishing... BUT she has no interest in it, therefore, that might put a slight kink in buying gear for ice fishing...LOL

terrible excuse! You can come with me or any of us and literally spend NOTHING to try it! you wouldn't need any of your own equipment to try it. If you liked it, it would cost you 20-40 bucks for tipups and then you can just always go with someone that has an auger and you don't even need one. couple of bucks on safety gear maybe. or you can pop one of your smaller bass reels on a short rod and jig.
as far as the wife you can do what i do... every time i buy something new and she asks about it i just tell her i won it in an online contest. she says oh nice, congrats. hahaha

Can confirm! I bought a cheapo ice rod and some lures to tag along with Chrisper. Spent $40 bucks on everything, didnt lose any lures that day either. I didn't get any tipups because I had never used one before, Chrisper taught me how so now I might have to get a couple of them. Had a great day on the ice with the guys!! Give it a try!!!

mostly north of rt 80 is where most of the icefishing takes place. the ice belt is almost out of new jersey. the northwest corner is where there is usually safe ice with these up and down temps the ice does not get thick enough to walk on in your area. come on rich we will convert you to the ICE SIDE:cool:
