Went fishin in the Monkswood region Saturday hoping for some walleye action. Fishing was slow, worked several areas picking away for 3 small eyes. Right around noon i set the hook on the bite i was hoping for. The fish stayed down, wouldn't come up. Felt like a GOOD eye. Once i started to lift the fish from the depths it shot across the bow of the Mugger and headed for the middle of lake. This is no walleye!!! I knew what i dealing with at this point and just wanted to see it. 6# braid, 10# flouro leader on a medium light jigging rod.....Got the ski to the surface and saw the jig right in the corner of the mouth and knew i had a chance. Got it in the net, immediately set the camera phone timer, hit the button, go back to the penned fish which was acting very calm, grabbed it under the gill, lift it and it totally freaks out. I managed to hold it for the pic, then layed it on the deck for measurement reference then right back in the lake. Swam away strong. After the adrenaline calmed there was blood everywhere, haha. I got raked!!!! Dug out the Mugger's half assed first aid kit, wrapped up my fingers and called it a day. 44"ish

That's from the gill rakers not the teeth correct. Same thing happened to me when I weighed in my first Northern Pike for a customer working at Efingers. I put my hands up into the gills (being unfamiliar with pike) I pulled my hand out and it was covered in blood !
Nice SKI, now you have battle scars !

Big fish on light tackle, gotta love it!

Was that Miller Lite in your first-aid kit? Seems like a good call, it would help with the pain a little! :D

Nice one Scott!! Congrats.
I had almost the same thing happen to me some years ago there too, a similar size fish got both of my hands. The left with it's gill and my right with a couple of teeth as it fell. It was caught in July on 8lb test and because of the extended fight, it took about 10 to 15 minutes to revive it so it could swim away to fight another day.

That's dope, Scotty. Congrats on landing it on the ultra lite tackle! Those hands look awesome, too. Battle wounds and stories behind the scars! Reminds me of the pike a number of years back on Lake Rocco--raked my hand and I was bleeding like a stuck pig! Looked like there was a knife fight on the ice!!! Hahaha...

An early Christmas present from the fish gods and scares to prove it!

Great tale and nicely done.

Props for having a first aid kit. Just added one to my Christmas list.

Haha, thanks for the hilarious responses! The fish that used my walleye as a chew toy last year was WAY bigger! I might of cried that day but this year i was giggling as I washed my hands with pristine lake water. My hands will be fine so make sure your light fixtures are reinforced if I come around! The first aid kit will be replenished with tape that actually sticks and a few airplane bottles of “antiseptic”. Weeeeewoooooo!!!!
