Don't think it's going to happen---EVER. Steel, Garden, Steeplechase & Ventnor piers were never fully restored to their original lengths or glory. Those days of their grandeur are long forgotten---fire and hurricanes took their toll...Same as what happened to Hackney's and Capt. Starns restaurants... just sayin...

Love the picture. My brother and I slept many a nights for years sleeping under the front lean-to on Army cots while my father fished all night. Garbage cans full of large ling and whiting. We were 4-14 years old in the fifties and early sixties. Some fishery that pier produced.

What if I tell you there is a pier where you can fish all night and catch plenty of ling? Only 30 minutes drive from New Jersey. :D

Brother, I am not sure why you continue to confuse squirel hake / spotted hake with red hake. ( ling) This has been pointed out to you before on previous posts that you have responded too... If your havin fun that is great, but this is what you are catching.... Guys the mythical location is a pier in Brooklyn.

That is an amazing image, and makes me think of a much a simpler time. When I was a kid, the short amount of time I lived w my father as a family, he did take me fishing a few times and It stuck w me my entire life. It became my passion in life besides my family.

I have the most difficult time getting my son down to the boat. Hed rather play video games most of the time. Its really frustrating.

I would have done anything to go w my Dad if he had a boat....or wanted me to go to the pier all night.

I guess its a different time.

God bess your Dad for doing that.

Boy, does that picture bring back wonderful memories.

My dad used to take me fishing there in 1955 when I was 6 years old. The first fish I ever caught there was a porgy.....ahhhh what wonderful times they were. I can still smell that cutting board now.

And now I run charters....guess it never got out of my system. :)

You must be my Minnie me! I have the same problem with my 14 year old kid and I'm ready to throw away his Xbox, switch and IPhone. Only problem is he's a wrestler and will kick my ass! LOL

Maybe we should get them together then perhaps that will motivate. He can play big brother fishing buddy to my 9 yr old.

Although for the the little he comes out, he is good at it and can hold his own on the Seabass.

Perhaps I need to just stay quietly consistent w him. (sorry to hijack)

Its still a ling, and plenty of them. Also, an occasional 30 lb bass being taking there few times a week, 10-15 lb weakfish, gigantic eels, black fish, etc.
NJ guys come to Brooklyn and enjoy this great fishery.
