Been a while since I caught a walleye and was itching to get on the water. Had to get out of the house yesterday so I decided to hit the big d. Fished from 7pm to 10pm. Got to the spot and a fish breaks water 5 feet from me. Cast out a crankbaits and fish on. Turned out to be a short walleye about 15 " but fat and healthy. Caught a rock bass after that. Then quiet for a little bit. Threw out a bait rig with night crawlers and got a few hits but did not connect until I was able to hook into a nice channel. Biggest I have ever caught. Say about 2 feet long. Son is dying to eat some catfish so decided to harvest it.but I came for walleye. Kept casting a crankbaits and hooked into a nice small right at my feet. Got quiet again so decided to make a move. Moved down stream as little bit and started throwing my trusty little minnow plug into a fishing looking area and bam, fish on. Nice keeper walleye. He popped off right at my feet as I was trying to beach it. Made a grab and i could see and feel him slip through my hand but he was still at my feet. Made another grab and was able to get him up out of the water. Nice 20" er. Kept fishing the area and not too long after hook up again. This one' s staying down and feels real heavy. Finally get him up and over to my next. Fought all the way. Biggest walleye for me since I only really started fishing for them last year. After the second walleye decided to call it a night as I didn't want to be greedy and work beckons. River was high but clear . Nice night out and I think the mosquitos are gone. Could see my breath in the night air.

YEA BUDDY!!! That’s some good eats right there man! Congrats on the PB Walleye! Enjoy it! The fishing will have only get better from here. Guess me and the boys should’ve stayed on the water a little longer. Water was pretty filthy on the northern end!:D

Off the bank. High water concentrates the fish. Just gotta know where;)

Do you usually do better for walleye when the river is a little high? Like your description of casting, kind of put me there.

Seems the only time I get out are high water situations .lol. it took me a while to figure them out. Gotta learn to read the river almost like trout fishing but on a grander scale. All my river walleye have come on artificial. Covering water helps and fishing cloudy days or at night.
