Definitely trying to make to this one. Love to jump in with someone cause I doubt I'd be able to keep up with my sh!tty motor. If not, I'll bring my boat and maybe someone can tow me around, lol. Also, if pops can't make it I'd have an extra seat.........

Looking pretty likely that I'm going to be there!! Pops or broski might be coming with but I'm not sure just yet. If neither can make it and I have an extra seat I'll let it be known asap. Just takes a little testicular fortitude to fish in my vessel. Hey, in the last five / six years I've only gone swimming twice, LOL.......... :D

If you're doing the bait and wait, you'll probably be fine just sitting. The issue comes when you have one or both people standing and casting. Both people shift weight in the one direction, or one's weight shift catches the other off guard and...well, you'll get a very uncomfortable but accurate read of the water temp!

BTW, Dow's rentals are pretty nice and have an aerated livewell for herring built into the middle bench seat. Then you'll just need to bring the table top grill for frying up sum chickn libbers and onions!

This is partially accurate... :D Only when I fish with pops can we both stand and fish most of the day without any issues. Usually anyone else that comes out with me sits, and holds on, while I stand and rock the boat. The first dump was with an inexperienced friend who was standing, lost his balance, then went swimming. Unfortunately he took me and most of my gear in with him.....

The second time was me standing, trying to navigate through 2 lay downs on opposite sides of the river, hitting a submerged log, and going in. Unfortunately, I took pops, and all my gear in with me, lol.......

Oh yeah, both times in the Big P. :D luckily it was in one of the less polluted sections but it still wasn't fun to have to swim after gear that was floating away...... I remember getting out of the water, emptying my pockets, and seeing one of my oars floating by. So yeah, I jumped back in to grab it, had to row back to the launch....... :D

HAHA, adventures! Well, those memories will last longer than any fish you caught. Sucks about the gear and taking a dunk in the P. I've been nervous about hitting a stump and having the boat stop while I continue to go! :D

Gonna try and get up there this weekend to see how it's going but remember things change from day to day so be positive! I remember a couple years back Jimmy the Greek and I fished the day before and we didn't do very well at all and then the next day POW! EVERYBODY was hooked up all day!!!! Stupid fishing at best! I know some of you remember that one! All the boats anchored in a NJF Flotilla and everywhere you looked someone was hooked up! So all I can say is if you can make it come on out we always have a blast no matter how good or bad the fishing is!!!!

Hello all. Looking forward to participating if I can get the boat in. This’ll be my first time targeting hybrids so excited to learn something new. A bit worried about the water level as I see some of you talking kayaks and canoes. Think I’ll be able to get my 18’ deep v in the water? If so I’ll have room for a couple more guys if needed. So give me some sort of head start here, what equipment/bait/lures do I need to have with me? Hope to get to meet some of you guys that have been helping me along with my first year on the ‘cong.

plenty of ways to skin a cat, but get 2-3 med fw rods with 10-12lbs line. some 2/0 or 3/0 inline circle hooks and a few tubs of bait and you'll be set.

Well now that it seems like summer is officially over and we have a nice stretch of cooler temps through next weekend hopefully the fish will feel the need to start feeding up to provide some good fall action! From the way it looks now I'm probably gonna drop GetANet in for a few hours early Sunday morning and check out a few spots.

GetANet
10-12-2018, 10:51 PM
I always try to keep things as simple and effective as possible when fishing and in life! As far as how I usually fish for them in the fall is with the livers like a lot of anglers do but I also like to have a nice bait swimming around down there and see which they chose. We usually fish two rods per person on board and set them up each a little different to see once again what the fish want that day! I personally fish one spinning rod and one baitcast set up and deadstick them. Obviously the lighter set up would be for a free floating liver or a small split shot or egg sinker while usually the heavier weight on the other rod. My reason is sometimes they will just barley bump your hook and thats when the spinning gear is ideal and other times they will smash your bait so hard it will rip the rod out of the boat if your not paying attention. Some good advice is also to make sure your Livers are thawed before you start fishing too. If you need more advice as far as techniques you can do a search for the last couple of hybrid Meet and Greets and there's enormous amount of info about set ups and techniques so read up and make sure you have some fresh line on your gear because these fish will bring you to your knees if your not prepared!!!!!!!

Uhhhhhgggggg! Some good marks out there the last 2 Sunday’s but not much to show. 3 Sunday’s ago was my best fishing as I had a nice little pile to myself in the AM! Since thenthe fish just aren’t cooperating. Do manage to get white perch, yellow perch, Bullhead cats, gills and Crappie to the boat. The Hybrids caught have been runts. Hopefully the continuous cold gets em going.

I had the gooey baits and Herring working yesterday. I wouldn’t give up bouncing all over the lake but failed when it comes to finding the beast Hybrids. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! TIGHT LINEZ!!!

GetANet
10-15-2018, 08:21 PM
Well it's looking like a week of cooler temps so maybe the lower temps for a few days will stabilize things and they'll be chewin. I plan on trying my usual trolling if there is no liver bite so it's always good to try and have some kind of back up plan. I didn't get the opportunity to get up there this past weekend due to mechanical issues with the truck so i spent sunday with greasy bleeding knuckles LOL! Stay positive and even if the fishing isn;t the best just hanging with some of the best fisherman I know and shooting the breeze is good enough for me!

Won’t be able to make the meet n greet so I also tried this past Sunday morning. From the sound of the previous report, may have even spotted FastEddie himself in another boat. Set up over some very nice marks and had drop and reel fishing for hours...for white perch! And some bullheads and gills. Fed them two tubs of livers. No hybrids yet but with cooler temps this week they may just turn on. If not the panfish will keep you busy. I had a couple rods but could only get one down before I had a bite. Left a baitless rod dangling over the side with barely a membrane of liver left on it and they were hooking themselves on that at the same time for some unintended doubles. Water temp was 64.

GetANet
10-16-2018, 09:12 AM
Thanks for the report and sorry you can't make it. The good part seems from your report is that the water temps are dropping somewhat so hopefully with this week long cold front that they will drop some more and get things goin! Hey there's always next year! I was thinking about maybe having one next year during the spring or summer to change things up a bit maybe even a NJF Midnight Madness Nighttime M&G for the Vampires! We can't control the weather or nature for that matter so we gotta play the game with the cards we're delt and sometimes we just get a bad hand! Hopefully next sunday we get a Full House but the way things are looking at the moment I don't expect it! But like I said we always have a good time whenever we get together so If you can get out come on out and if not hopefully we'll see ya next time around!

Also, is there a particular time everyone is showing up?

Well the forecast is calling for some pretty bad wind on Sunday so hate to say if it's blowing 20-30 mph I'm gonna call it. Cold and heavy winds do not make for a safe enjoyable day so if you are planning on coming I would advise you to check the weather and decide for yourself I can already tell you if it's blowing like that I will not be making the trip! I'm going to keep an eye on the forecast and post up tomorrow evening whether it's on or cancelled so make sure you check the board to be updated. :(

This is the right call. NW 15+ with gusts to 35 is no bueno. Launching at lees may be impossible as the wind will be blowing right at the ramps. It will be an ocean out there.
