Decided spordically try my luck at the manasquan reservoir during the rain this morning and was rewarded with a nice White perch and chunky large mouth, & just outta of curiosity hit the manasquan river later that day and landed a decent striper , guess the manasquan theme worked out for me with some bass today

With answers come questions. How did the water look at Manasquan res, do a lot of people fish the res ? I guess with all the rain the reservoir is at bank full, do Manasquan water levels fluctuate like Spruce Run, water release ?
How far up the Manasquan river did you catch the Striped bass, should NJF&W be contacted ? How was the water in the river, clean?
Sorry I'm just a nosey rosey but nice fish all around !

Andy S to be honest i personally hate manasquan res if you dont got a boat bank accesss is limited regardless of the water level, which is high every where in Nj this year, but the water clarity was preetty clear. Fyi i rarely go there and when i do i get the skunk but i had gut feeling id catch a little fatty largie.
Im not gona spot burn but i caught the striper more towards the manasquan closer to allaire, the river seemed a little low but the manasquan is always preety muddy and id say the water was extremly clear for there, BTW that striper was the lone fish caught between me and girl friend that outing & also i caught a smaller schoolie striper last year around the same time in the same spot
Not sure there might be a small batch of stripers that use the manasquan river as there estuary until there big enough to go out to sea but thats my 2 cents

There are a few groups interested in striped bass in New Jersey tributaries, one of them is the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium. This group is very interested in the Raritan as well as other rivers in N.J. Might want to drop a line to F&W just for a heads up on the Striped bass. As fishermen we do field work for them unbeknownst to us, like an unpaid worker, but that's okay.
