Great job with the trout stocking, as usual. I didn't get out as much as I normally do because of work and turkey hunting, but when I did ... WOW. I caught 113 trout and could have caught many more. The new feed that you switched to is great. The fish are more colorful, the meat is orange & they are great fighters ... THANKS I also caught a tagged one

They do seem to be healthy fish, along with all the warm water fish being stocked also. I would like to see Brown Trout stocked again.

Good thread to fire up Frank! Definitely a big 'Hats off!' to the folks at the Pequest Hatchery for yet another great batch of trout this year! They certainly have the production process and cycle honed down to a fine point! Nice quality fish that exceed both the anticipated avg. size and the target production quota!
Also as Andy mentioned the folks at Hackettestown continue to do a phenomenal job rearing numerous species in record numbers and in great physical condition! Kudos to our Div. staff for many jobs well done! We're always ready to let them know when we feel they've screwed up one way or another, so credit where credit is due. Let them know when we feel they've done well also!

While there is room for improvement I can't deny how amazing it is that they stock this many trout in this many waters, statewide too, and how they keep up with in-season stockings.
Size and color of the trout were nice too. I see some other trout from other states and I am surprised at how sick they look, sometimes not even a pink stripe!

.
The Hybrid Stripers stocked by Fish & Wildlife are the greatest sport fish ever.
Strong fighters, fast growers, and willing to hit a variety of lures and baits.

Definitely the most colorful rainbows I have seen stocked....didn't keep any but heard they tasted better than the mud fish from years past...
F&W does a fantastic job offering such a diverse fishery to NJ fisherman...

I told someone from Bucks County PA I was catching tons of trout in the Passaic River a few miles from my house and he was like "yeah but they're like 9 inches right?". Nope
Great job NJF&W

Now that they've been in the rivers a few weeks they fight better too.

It's been a great season so far.. Limited out many times with really nice sized Rainbows. They where very healthy looking and put up a good fight. I never got skunked and at times left them biting. NJ put's together a great stocking program!

NJ put's together a great stocking program!
Funny cause I don't think it's very much different than it's been since Pequest opened in the late 80's.
What I think has changed though is:
*Water quality, streams are cleaner on average now than then
*Angler participation, much less guys fishing = more fish
*More anglers C&R = more fish to catch each time out

When it comes to trout fishing I’m actually proud to say I live in New Jersey. There isn’t many states where you can catch between 10 and 30 trout in a few hours at Just about every river you go to for over two months straight! That’s exactly why you see all the Pennsylvania license plates at our rivers. I know there is a lot of states that have much better quality/wild trout but I wouldn’t trade what we have for anything.
