Had a request for some trout so I hit up an area that I had done well when I was a kid. Haven't been there in at least 25 years and I'm sure it's been that long since I have bait fished for trout. Started around 4:30 pm and got one right away. I worked my way upstream and started swinging and missing like the Mets with a hangover. Finally caught another one and left at six. I broke out my 35 year old Red Ball hip boots that I have not used in some time as well, they were still good and didn't leak a drop as opposed to my 2 year old high dollar imported chest waders. God bless the USA.

Your post brings back memories growing up in
Paramus in the 60s. Redballs.... no more.

Haven't fished the Saddle river since last fall, but it is by far my favorite. It really is a gem. Lots of wild Browns and a challenge to get a plus sized one but they are in there. Thanks for the comeback.

Wow, haven't fished HoHoKus in years! Used to fish there with my uncle and catch HUGE eels on Velveeta. I wonder if they're still there?

I didn't see much life there today. Sadly the water quality looked poor, kinda funky smell and no insects hatching whatsoever. I've been told there are some wild Browns in there as well by the TU guys, though I have never got one there that I know of. I do remember it was loaded with Suckers, never got an eel in there. Thanks for the reply.

I work very close to Hohokus Brook and have been meaning to give it a shot.

Give it a shot brother. Let us know how you do. If I went back I would use 2lb test to make longer more accurate casts and sidearm it to keep your cast low and out of the brush. There were plenty of fish there but I was really rusty at bait fishing. Good luck if you go.
