Hit the Ramapo this afternoon up in Mahwah. Got on the water after 3. Water was up a bit, slightly stained. First spot only 1 dink stockie on a spinner. Saw another fisherman down river were I was going so I decided to get out and take a walk looking for a few of the thousands of trout put in this river so far this spring. Finally found a few willing to bite including a nice 16 incher. Worms were the ticket today. Surprise of the afternoon was a small brown, first I've caught in this river ever. Fish quality this year is excellent, great colors and orange/pinkish meat.

Kept 3 for grill and they were excellent. My 15 yr daughter loves eating trout. I have seen some posts here thru the years saying stocked trout taste terrible etc, I beg to differ. Have eaten most fish known to man and grilled trout is one of our favs.:D

To each his own, but typically freshly stocked trout are awful... After a few months of eating natural food, they are better eating , but fresh stockies??... yuck...
