Caught a few nice lakers the other day and also I started putting a side rod down with a filet of those stockie rainbows (finally found a use for them other than fertilizer haha)

Anyway I see a huge mark come up to it and swim away 3 times so i put my jig down and grabbed it...next time i saw it come in, i reeled it up away from it and it crushed me, bent the rod in half and SNAPPED my line.

Drag was set good, but I realized, in my rush getting ready the night before, I had grabbed this spare rod to put out for the day and never checked the line or leader...don't even know what lbs test the leader was honestly....what a stupid costly mistake...hopefully will save someone reading from doing the same.

Also had to fix my own camera timer button because Nikon didn't give a flying rats ass about helping me, so i won't be buying anymore Nikon product after this one and i'm just warning everyone i know...they don't stand behind their products. Good news is I shouldn't have to do these stupid selfies anymore haha.

Im no stranger to gear accidents either, from too tight of a drag to just not tying the knot right :o Ive lost some good fish from them too.

So was that fish you attached in the post from the same day? That's a nice one.

yes, probably 10 minutes before the disaster! and then i caught a few more after but was in no mood to take pictures haha

I lost a big 25 lb. class musky once when the trebles of the plug I was using caught the outer bag of the net.....I heard a "click" and the fish was free and just swam away slowly when I thought she was in the net for sure! Another time I had a nice tiger musky IN the net and somehow it got its nose in an opening of the mesh of the net and just power wiggled back and forth until it was gone.....never even got a chance to touch it! Sometimes the fish have to win.....don't worry about it.....if you have the passion your day will come.....enjoy!;)

Still scratchin' my head on this one. Few fish hit with such a vengeance, the one that come to mind is Salmo Trutta.

No worries, Chris, it happens to all of us at some point. Those mysterious monsters that break our hearts are a big reason why we keep coming back.
