First of all thanks for all the great info here and thanks to Fasteddie for some great advice on where to take my 6 year old daughter trout fishing for the opener.
We wound up at spring lake and fished with my buddy and his boys, and 2 other groups of people. About 15 people in total. Action was slow as it was cold and breezy, but my daughter Lauren got a nice 11.5" state stocked rainbow on a pink powerbait. The only other fish in our group was a 2.5# brook trout.
We spent the rest of the day Saturday riding around - manasquan river was dirty, mahogenong was dirty as well. Shark river looked clean, but no life, and the Toms river was surprisingly very clean but there was no life there either.
Yesterday I was able to stick a nice 18" rainbow at spring lake early on on a spinner, but later in the afternoon we didn't have that kind of luck but others picked a few fish here and there.
Pics below are of Lauren's rainbow and the brook trout caught next to us. I wasn't able to get a pic of that rainbow I caught yesterday morning.
