I'm coming for you...i'm on the right track...if there's still a monster down there i will find it...

Had a lot of hits that didn't hook up and dropped a heavy one on the normal go-to jigs...as hard as it was to switch it up from that, I did and it paid off. They started committing better to my homemade spoons and paddle tail/jig heads, than the usual tried and true jigging raps and blades.

Ended up landing my longest one yet at 29.5" (skinny as hell though, but fought like a beast) like i've said before, anyone that buys into the myths that these fish don't fight is missing out! this thing burned my drag back down 20 ft as i was bringing him up at one point!

It was a good day with a handful of avg fish as well after i got away from the lures they were continuously half-ass hitting.

Couldn't get my camera timer to work so all i got was a video, here is a still frame from it or you can watch the video at this link: https://www.nationalprostaff.com/posts/312148/pb-lake-trout-length

and a happy selfie of one of the handful of avg ones:

Great job!

I think monster laker hunt is a worthy endeavor, there has to be a few more beasts swimming in those reservoirs. Did you upsize your bait? The couple of true giants I've heard about came on "normal" size tubes/jigs.

i haven't upsized yet, using all 'normal' size lures 4-5" I probably should have a bigger lure ready to drop down if i marked something really big that didn't go after the norm...i guess, not sure about that yet. I'm reluctant to change what i'm doing too much, it seems to be working.

That's one lure i hear is popular that i haven't caught one on yet though, the tube.

Put a 7-8 inch brown or yellow Bullhead cat on a 7/0 hook down where they live. Nobody ever listens to me!!! It will work. It has worked. They glow in the dark in that high mercury level water. :D

i can't tell if you're serious...i think you are! live bait is such a hassle though!

Some lakes they fish very large dead baits on the bottom, Lake Trout are scavengers. Every year around mid April Round Valley would cough up a few biggins'. I think if it is going to happen mid April to mid May would be your best shot. And yes I have hooked some I couldn't turn, medium spinning outfit 6 lb. test line, then they head for my anchor rope and that is the end of that.

The tube inspires no confidence in me, but I know it catches fish. Doesn't look like anything! but I guess that's the point.

I've been eyeballing my 5.8 keitech fats for lakers...send it down on a 1/2oz jighead...a 25" fish will still hit it I'm sure, but it must increase my odds on larger fish!

well i'm using #10 minimum and i'm not using an anchor so hopefully i get a shot at one of those monsters...I may start putting a second line down with a dead bait though too.

Imagine how much bigger your fish would have been, Chris, if it had been eating more than scuds. Big fish.......Big baits!

i just don't find the big bait big fish theory to hold true much here in NJ...if i look back on big fish catches, most of my biggest bass, muskie, and walleye were caught on small to regular sized lures 3-5"... i figure it's because we don't have a lot of bigger baitfish species (not including panfish) in north and north central jersey lakes and reservoirs like they do in other places so even big fish are very inclined to take lures the size of avg or big herring...i've seen some massive sized herring in cong, but idk how common they are over 6-7" (seen them net ones around 10-12" now and then at dows)
