iced trout

took my first real try at ice fishing for trout and salmon the other day. didn't mark any salmon but had 7 flags go off with a little bit of line pulled out over deeper water. could've been anything i guess. marked some bait on the flasher but no fish jigging until a rainbow came up and struck at my jig twice literally right under the hole (ice was crystal clear so i saw the whole thing, pretty cool). that one didn't hook up but i finally got one later on. The only fish for the day, but i guess mission accomplished haha.

oh and here is a brown trout from yesterday. First stocked brown i've seen in years in NJ. $17k club fish up for bail?

the one that hit me jigging didn't hook up unfortunately but i saw it attack through the ice. this one was on a tip up...i wish it was on the jigging rod :(
