Quick 2 hour trip last night on the river. It was too mild out for December to pass up the opportunity. Threw an old relax shad Skunk gave me 2 seasons ago...2.5 or 3".
Had a couple bumps and stuck 2 fish. One was just shy of 18" and the other was 23.5". The larger fish had gnarly tumors on it. Kinda gross lol. She looked well fed though.
Pretty sure these were the latest walleye I've ever caught this far into the season. I'm usually done around thanksgiving due to frozen guides and fingertips. Was good to get out.

Always wonder to myself when I catch a fish with such lesions on it, do I toss it into the woods or just let it go. The ideal answer as always is to take it to Pequest and let the F&G pathologist look at it.
Either way fish look well fed. The infected fish is not the norm but more of a rarity, should you see more of this definitely retain the fish and get it to the F&G lab.

Love the patterns on river eyes. The herpes not so much. Haha
I think I’ve heard some Wally’s get those tumors when the water temp drops and they aren’t anything to worry about.

I read somewhere that the native Raritonka Indians would pluck the tumors off Walleyes and eat them in hopes of a fertile spring. Is that your secret Jeremy or are we having a crappy night bite come this spring? :p
