View Full Version : Post Your Biggest Fish of 2017!

Can you believe it's already December?!?! Time to reminisce about memorable fish we caught this year. I know many of you are still fishing, so this is a 'living thread' that can be bumped anytime until midnight Dec. 31.
This is a fish picture thread and the posters are under no obligation to disclose the where and how of what they caught. They'll disclose what they're comfortable sharing. I'll ask the readers not to pester the posters with questions.

I guess I'll go first since I started the thread.
My biggest Smallmouth Bass this year is this 20.5 inch specimen I caught out of my kayak at a well-known reservoir.
Judging from the length-weight-age charts, this bass weighed about 4.5 pounds and was about 13 years old.
I never submitted these pictures for a Skillful angler award because I messed up the measurement shot. Neither the fish, nor the tape measure was straight and flat and the phone cover was wet, making the picture too blurry to distinguish the numbers. My main priority when taking the photos was to get the exhausted bass back into the water as soon as possible. Besides, I know some people on this forum have caught bigger smallies, so it wouldn't be a winner for the year anyway.
I haven't posted my face on this forum in a long time. If anyone find it disturbing or if it scares your children and pets, I can take the photo down. :D

Biggest overall:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k320/JL1981/20170711_181945_zpskyutmrix.jpg
Largest New Jersey freshwater:
Monster pike
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k320/JL1981/20170923_173443_zpskt0ixp4f.jpg
Largest Saltwater:
60+lb cobia
http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k320/JL1981/20170807_023013_zpsdkmfmr11.jpg
Biggest "Local" Wild Brown Trout:
Browns are one of my favorite fish, and this one was particularly special. This is the largest brown I caught locally (within an hour of my house). I caught it on 4lb test and didnt get an accurate measure, but it was definitely over 20".

Fishing is not a competition. If you value your catch, then it's a great catch.
I don't know anything about Hybrid Stripers, but I often catch them as 'by-catch' when bass fishing or catfishing. This summer I caught one that was 23 inches long. This may or may not be a good catch, but it was the biggest hybrid I've ever caught.
It felt so heavy, I was reluctant to pick it up by the jaw for a picture and risk hurting it, hence the awkward 'fish hug' photo. I released it and I hope the next lucky angler that caught it was as happy as I was.

Maybe not necessarily the biggest fish of the year. Maybe the post should be some of the memorable fish and times of the year.
Got an award, caught some fish and even pulled cars out of the river. I'm not one on saving too many photos.

Not as much time to fish as years past but still managed some quality fish. Added a boat to the arsenal in 2017 so I explored new lakes, techniques and species.
-Short but sweet ice fishing season for Walleye, Pike and Panfish
-Stellar Spring with biggest Walleye of the year @27.25", a nice 25" Hybrid and a 19" Largemouth
-Focused a lot of Trout this summer and landed a ton of Rainbows, my first Lakers and a kayak-trolled Brown Trout
-solid Fall with my pb Smallie at a little over 21"

No problem. Photobucket used to be useful but nowadays it seems pretty unreliable and they're trying to get their users to pay in order to do basic image sharing; basically selling out. Imgur is a good site for image hosting (which might be short lived as well)

some great pics so far guys!!!!
Currently sitting at home watching the snow fall so i guess the reality of the 2017 fishing season is done....didn't get out as much as last year but did fish some new and interesting waters with old and new friends and even got on the salt.
Hit the walleye grounds pretty religiously in the spring and caught a fair share of fish including probably the most memorable one.
18" PB Rainbow Trout that thinks it is a bass. This thing hit a 1/2oz spinnerbait, spit the hook and came back for it. The picture even got picked off the Knee Deep Club and appeared in the Herald and got hacked by those Bolivian Dancing Zebras.

Biggest Walleye of the Year at 26"

Got on the Monger with a motley crew and caught a boat limit of Seabass

19.5" Small Mouth. Second most memorable fish. Caught her off the dock while I was grilling dinner. Up to this point fishing had been slow.
