Began my annual fall / winter pilgrimage to the eastern shore wading / casting the Yo Zuri.

A week ago, caught only a smallie.

Yesterday, caught & released: 18” rainbow & 24” rainbow (“He was a big fat pig of a fish.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_YaSAZqcjA)

Had 2 other, smaller rainbows on, that jumped & got off.

Sounds good, Mark.

I never tried wading there. Last time I went there I noticed how much it would help getting past the shallow parts. Any advice on wading because I noticed some of the banks of RV are very muddy.

I used to hit RV a lot when I started to fish but pretty much gave up on it once i noticed how fun the rivers were. Sounds like the time to get back at it.

Last fall / winter the water level was way down. I tried wading, & sunk in the silt almost to my knees. I didn’t go back.

Now, that the water level is up some, the wading is fine.

Awesome report! Which Yo Zuri model were you throwing? I'm always looking for new lures to try.

Damn! I'm feeling like this right now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9jjK6zU4ZU

Guess I'll have to find some other new lures to try! Been meaning to pickup a binsky for awhile now.

I once watched a guy slay bows at rvr with a 1/4 oz silver binksy from shore. It was pretty crazy

At first, I used a #9 Floating Rainbow Trout Rapala.

Then, I found a Yo Zuri Magnet Minnow (3.5” Floating, Smolt pattern) washed up on the shore there.

Historically, I always had the most success with the wind from the NW, right in my face. The transfer of a weight inside the abovementioned lure allows for long casts in those wind conditions.

Correct, they no longer make that exact lure (I still have one that is very beat up,…but it catches!).

A couple of years ago I bought few of their new Mag Minnows. The lip, a bit longer, caused it to dive too deeply. So, I shaved some off to match the old one. It catches.

Currently, it appears they have even a newer line: http://yo-zuri.com/products/mag-minnow-floating/

Went again, yesterday.

1 laker @ 18", 2 bows @ 15" (couple others on that got off), & 2 smallies @ around 11".

A friend caught (on a spoon) a 15" laker , had another trout on / lost it & a trout follow.

Yes.

Over the weekend C & R'ed,.....

Browns: 16" (nice shape), 18" (very skinny).

Lakers: 15", 16" & 22".

Rainbows: 15" & 18".

A few others on, but lost.

Put new trebles on a found Lucky Craft Live Pointer. Caught them on that, too.

Went for the first time this year.

10' ice shelf from the shore to open water, on which were a series of regularly spaced volcano-like ice structures (one was 5' tall). The same area where I've caught the most trout, this season.

A bit farther north, I was able to traverse a 6' ice shelf (no volcanos) & wade open water. No fish caught.

2 eagles way high,...........& an immature eagle winging it low, a few feet above the water, about 150' feet offshore.

Huh,......they are ice volcanoes! First time I saw them.

Lots of them on the Great Lakes:

https://weather.com/science/nature/news/great-lakes-oddity-ice-volcanoes-20140301

I don't have photos of the ones @ RVR.

Yesterday, I guess the wind wasn't sufficiently strong to push enough water under the ice to cause an eruption.

Began my annual fall / winter forays there.

4 times so far: landed a 15" Rainbow & a 20" Laker, another trout on but lost, a couple of hits. Slower than other years.

Yes, Yo Zuri Magnet Minnow. This past Wed., when I caught the Laker, a nearby trolling boat angler claimed that he had been picking them up all morning.

I was at RV fishing before the rains moved in; got one laker just over 20" and a rainbow about 13" that was FAT. Otherwise, rather slow.

Two guys in kayaks were out by the south tower, one guy said he had caught 3lakers, not sure what time they started.
