Got out and about early with Redi on Sunday in search of deep water beasts. Launched at sunrise to a cold, empty lake and ice forming on the guides ;) , fall is upon us my friends! Threw the usual assortment of jigs and were rewarded with a dozen Walleye to 25" and close to two dozen Crappie, most in the 11"-13" range with a couple nice dinner plates coming into the net.

Around 10 am something big and mean decided to take us for a ride. For about 15 minutes, I battled an unseen monster. Multiple powerful, drag peeling runs from a fish that totally outmatched my medium power St. Croix. Redi even got on the motor to chase this thing down, but it was to no avail that it popped the hook on my blade bait before we even saw it. I was a sobbing, wimpering mess laying in fetal position before Redi scraped me up, put the St. Croix back in my hands and got me focused again. Luckily, the action continued, but my dreams will be haunted for some time. We packed it in around 4pm, leaving the fish biting.

Phenom post Rob. Great action and quality shots. The lost beast will have you burning to get back out for sure. That crappie is a slab too.

Red and Meth... err, Skunk. Haha!

Great report. I'm sorry you lost that mean fish; always a bit harder when you don't even get to see it. That's still a great assortment of fish however!

I was thinking Muskie, Redi thought state record Walleye lol. Rod was totally doubled over, drag set nicely but we honestly probably didn't gain an inch of line over the period of the fight. Did not snap the line, and the leader was completely nick-free.

Awesome fish rob. Solid walleyes and that was an incredible crappie. I have a feeling that you lost a big musky. The same feeling i got when a 40+ inch pike swiped my husky jerk at pines lines lake in front of my face and then swam away. This is why fishing is the most exciting sport. You never know what your gonna get. EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

Nice job. to bad you didn't land the beast. I have changed the rear blade on my 3/4 OZ binskys to a #2 and the middle to a #4 and have only lost 1 out of about 25 fish. Seems to really help and I was getting tired of my stories ending with the same story.:mad::mad:

I must of swapped out hooks on 10 blades last night. I lost a lot of fish Sunday. Inspected the hooks and they where beat up from being pounded and snagged into rocks. Took your advice and down sized a few trebles also hopefully eliminating that annoying foul up when the hooks cross.

I'd bet anything it was a carp if it was a constant drag buzzer. they'll def suck a blade off the bottom.

I stopped using binsky's a long time ago....i'm not sure where the hype came from them but they're no better than the vibes and thinfishers...just more expensive.

The only thing Binsky's have going for them is they make a 3/4oz. But they do kinda suck. The gold and silver paint always flakes off.

My yearly picture of this Binsky eating carp.
