I came across this a couple of weeks ago, and it looks like some of the spots i like to fish for spring trout may no longer be stocked. I am so upset about this. I sent them an email and all I got was an automated response. Every time I find a decent place to fish close to home it turns to crap.I hope this does not get passed.

It does look like a lot thought went into this. Sorry to hear you are upset.
I've been asking for changes on the Raritan for years and so far nothing.
The response I get is to attend the F&G meeting in the spring, which I do.

why is the public meeting being held in the southern part of the state which is nowhere near where these proposed changes will affect???

kinda makes me think about what or more importantly whom is motivating these proposed changes?

If you take issue with these changes be sure to comment by 12/1.

I blame the fly fishing pretty boys. Bet theyre behind this. Theyve been butt hurt ever since they removed the fly fishing only sections and guys, who are more interested in fishing than twirling a giant noodle rod around, been catching all their trouts haha

the fact that there is an provision in the new rules that allows them to fish publicly stocked rivers on their private club property when the season is closed for the rest of us is total BS...just another instance of the 1% trying to make a public resource their own...this is a give away to some connected individuals.....

if you are a 99%er i would encourage you to write FGW and oppose this proposed rule

Im going to argue that if it's their property then they should be able to do what they want. Id imagine the folk at those clubs have a high level of respect (on average) for CnR and will be happy to return a hungry trout already swimming on their property.

Additionally, I figured folk that had clubs already fished during the off-season because there's no one enforcing it. Do game wardens ever check the club's property in the first place? This new rule just simply made it official. With or Without the rule I dont see what it would change.

I think the main problem is private clubs to begin with. Kind of lame that the state chose to sell so much public river to private. I don't have a big understanding of how much river is under club boundaries compared to public water- I know that for hacklebarney state park it's actually mostly private however... id like to imagine a hike from the bottom of that stretch to the top with a rod in my hand, but at its current length it's not even 3 hour hike I think.

The only good thing is that their extra club stocking of fish gets into the general public river eventually sometimes as well.

If it is a private lake/pond then sure they can do whatever they want to do.

My problem is that this proposed rule is for publicly stocked rivers! Yes the very same rivers that you and i fish and that our trout stamps pay to stock fish with.

Why do they get to be special??? because members pay $17,000/year for access to private piece of property that a river runs through? i don't know about you but that is some serious expendable income which only the 1% can afford

I agree, I dont think the state should have sold land that sits on a public river in the first place.

It is BS that the trout we pay for through stamps can end up in their part of the river.

I just dont see anyway around that however.

Yes there is....write to FGW using their comment forum....if there is enough pushback they will likely table the rule...

Through the efforts of the Knee Deep Club we were able to get the state to table a proposed rule that would have not allowed any boat to anchor within 200' of the entire shoreline on Lake Hopatcong....Some well off and connected home owners didn't want to see party goers in their cove anymore and tried to sneak the boating rule through in the middle of the winter...

Your voice will be heard..this is what makes America Great..

I do think it's BS too. Again im just stating that the club-members will still probably be catching state stockies in the closure anyways; nothing really enforcing to prevent it. But surely the rule being official isnt a good step.

I left my own comment against that proposal through that link you sent.
