JCAA 18TH ANNUAL FLUKE TOURNAMENT



Tournament registration ends this Friday night June 8, 2012. To register online, go towww.JCAA.org or call the JCAA office at 732-506-6565 (with your credit card in hand). The registration fee is $150. or just $120. if you register by 6/2.

For all those that enter the tournament, one week later, on Friday night June 15th the TOURNAMENT AWARDS CEREMONY will take place at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City. One hundred port prize winners will be called on stage to claim more than $50,000 in PORT PRIZES including a $1,200 CASH First Place Prize for each Port. In addition, there will be dozens of door prizes worth THOUSANDS of DOLLARS and one lucky entrant will win this year's GRAND PRIZE of $5,000 in CASH! Port winners DO NOT have to be present at the award ceremony to accept their port prizes and entrants do not have to catch a fish to be eligible for the Grand Prize or any door prizes. They need only to be registered and present at the Awards Ceremony.

Prizes are from our nationally known Sponsors (Penn, Spiderwire, Berkley Gulp, MinnKota, West Marine Stores, Costa Premium Sunglasses, Interlux Paint, Nor'East Saltwater Magazine, and a long list of sporting goods stores, bait and tackle shops, and retailers throughout the Country all supporting the goals of the JCAA. (Prize ranking and port prizes may be adjusted based upon retail value.)

This is Ten Mini-Tournaments with TEN PORTS, TEN PRIZE PACKAGES, and TEN PRIZES for EACH PORT! Entrants fish from the port of their choice and only compete against other boats registered from that port. The list of Statewide ports to choose from are: Jersey City (Liberty Landing Marina), Sandy Hook (Gateway Marina and Yacht Sales), Shark River Inlet (Fisherman's Den), Manasquan River (Clarks Landing Marina), Barnegat Bay (Southwinds Marina), Long Beach Island (Fisherman's Headquarters), Great Bay (Great Bay Marina), Ocean City (Fin-Atics), Cape May (Jim's Bait & Tackle), and Fortescue (Higbee's Marina).



New for this year is our striped bass category. After popular demand JCAA has provided this category to aid the bass fisherman of New Jersey. All rules applied to fluke will also apply to the bass category. We are anticipating a big turnout for our bass category and are happy to announce they also will be surveyed based upon fishing data each fisherman provides.

During the past week, we have seen and heard fluke of all sizes (including some doormats) are being caught daily throughout the State. Anglers hooking up at their favorites "spots" in preparation for this Saturday are hurrying back to port to register via online, fax and calls to the JCAA office (a few of them called while still out on the water).

We are again conducting a survey of angling success vs. effort during our annual fluke tournament. The data gathered has provided valuable insight into the success of anglers in ports from Jersey City to Fortesque. We will again offer anglers the opportunity to complete the survey on line. Click here to fill out the survey. Print out a copy of the survey so you can keep track of your catch on the form or just count and measure all fluke whether kept or released.

When you are finished fishing on June 9 simply go to the site and enter your actual data. All those who fill out the report on line by Tuesday June 14th will be entered into a drawing for a free entry into next year's tournament.

The format of this tourney is one of the best as far as I'm concerned.
Gone downhill I don't believe that's a valid description, for a tournament that offers decent prize catergoties in a manner that even non anglers can win!
I've won several categories over the years & prizes were great!
No boat giveaway big deal plentyof cash & prizes at ports.
Money from entrance fees go to help fight fisheries issues, what more can you ask for , not many offer more

I agree 100%

The top port prize is nice. The other port prizes are average, at best.

The overall winner (drawn from a ticket a week later) went from the boat to 10G$; clearly a drop in value.

They've never given the top overall biggest fish any more consideration than a mention @ the awards ceremony.

That said we fish it every year and I have a fun night @ Trump Marina.

It's 120 bucks guys. WTF? I paid my 120 and probably won't even fish it. Just go to awards and see if I can win 10k. Better odds than 1000 at a craps table. Port prize of 1200 or so ain't bad for a day of fishing and 30 bucs a man fishing a 4 man crew

Unfortunateley in these tough economic times there have been no manufacturers willing to donate a boat. The grand prize fluctuates between 5k and 10K based on the number of entrants we have. Again due at least in part to the problems with the economy, there have been less entrants in recent years.
We also believe that a lot of fishermen are fishing for stripers at this time of the year due to the fabulous spring runs of the last few years. Anyway that is why we added a striper category. We are also considering changing the date of the tournament for next year to later in the season when the fluke fishing is at it's peak. Paul, good to hear that the JCAA board is listening to feedback. I have suggested for a few years now that the date should be later in the season when the catch ratio seems to increase for sizeable fish. The prizes are what they are based on your sponsor participation. Maybe adding a "top prize" for overall biggest fish at all ports in addition to the individual 1st place by port could add some renewed interest? OBX or FLA keys fishing trip or other packages as a thought.
